Not having kids, this subject is a big blind spot for me.

However, a friend of mine from Dundee grew up on "Katie Morag". I know nothing of the books but she goes misty eyed when she recalls them. I am told the full emotional impact only happens when they are read out loud by someone with an "authentic" island accent (accent, what accent?).

Please contribute to this thread so it gives me lots of book ideas for my two nephews.
