I dont know to what extent this applies in the UK, but the
idea is that the intsructor should take time to suss out who he needs to dance with ... and give them some gentle advice (e.g. a lady gripping too tight, a guy continualy overstepping). At least thats general guidannce from Blitz and I think the CTA recommend something similar.
