I remember cancelling a subscription to something once and they did this. I'd already made up my mind I wanted to cancel and I really didn't want to be treated like an idiot who didn't know what I wanted by someone trying to change my mind. But I was also aware that the person was just doing their job so I said as they started 'I know its your job to try to persuade me not to cancel, but I have made up my mind, not going to change it' - he just laughed and said 'is it that obvious?' and didn't push it.

All done with humour and I still cancelled, but at least ended the conversation feeling like I'd been treated like a person. If he'd pushed it to try to get me not to cancel, I'd still have cancelled and ended up annoyed as well!
