If you have a cat flap, don't. Though you might be willing to risk your life to save your cat's apparently the reverse isn't true (a fire safety guy was nattering about this) and your cat is probably already far away from your house.

But do save your dog. They will hang around in a burning building to bark and generally let you know something is up.
Again this was advice from a fire safety guy but I don't have any reason to think he's a cat hater or anything
