Re: How do you teach spinning?

There seems to be two ways of teaching spinning. The common theme to both is keeping on balance. You can't spin if you are off balance.

The usual way is to concentrate on things that can pull you off balance - arms, head, feet, posture etc. You are usually told to spin on your toes, and with a straight leg. The closer everything is to the axis the quicker the spin can be. This is a very good way of making you spin better, but doesn't always help if you can't spin at all.

The second way is to concentrate on the core of the body - ie the bit that actually spins. Don't worry about the arms and the head - spin the body and they will follow. Again you spin on your toes, but with a bent leg to make adjusting your balance easier. You will never do incredible spins this way - maybe just 4 or 5...
