Question Has The Forum helped your dancing?

Quote:
Before I discovered the wisdom on this forum ...
Prompted by this snippit from Lou, I was just wondering how much (if any) this forum has helped your dancing and/or appreciation of dancing?

Has the forum improved my dancing or appreciation of dancing?
EEhh -- no.
As an absolutely hopeless beginner, it will take a lot more than the forum to drag me out of the beginners section.
But I am a stronger person. I don't feel guilty when the quantity of postings to be read keeps me late for the school run. There's a perfectly good bus shelter that they can wait in.

Re the poll options - I know it 's usually someone else's job to point out the errors but as there has been no response as yet - that's definetly not how you spell it.

You mean the mis-spelling of "definitely" I take it.

Gadget's Spelling

I am afraid Gadget is a hopeless case as regards spelling, he really needs to get his dictionary out from under the table leg it supports!! Then again he probably has a lot on his mind , what with helping Clueless( Sorry Clouseau) solve all these murderous goings on, and all the stopovers he keeps having here in Bonnie Dundee !!

Heather,

Look, the post was late, when I was tired and should have been tucked up in bed with a warm cup of coco.
{I'm sure that I put 'adding a spell check' in to the list of requests for improving the forum... but in the mean time - Franck, can you please sort my spelling errors on the pole? :sorry }

As to 'Death By Chocolate'; there are a number of leads we are pursuing....rest assured that the culprit will not be on the loose for long; if only because s/he will soon be the last one standing!

oh, and the only noticeable effect of the forum, is a marked decrease in productivity at work!

‘Has this forum...’ in the sense that it has contributed to my decision to ‘get back on the bike’, than yes, definitely (Thursday was a bloody disaster ...Friday a revelation ). Pammy(tm), genuine ‘thank you’ here for the ‘fluffing it’ comments....the image of you ‘fluffing it’ and landing on your..ummmm delicate parts made me feel a bit better (oh bugger!):sorry in a non-mocking, that’s reassuring king of way! Honestly .

Helped me technically, no not really, but by helping me ‘onto the bike’ it’s ensured that I’m in the right environment to work on technique. Cheers Franck, and all

The Forum has brought up a few interesting topics that the small minority of regular readers (how many jivers exist in the world anyway? theyre all potential forum members ) will be aware of, but has anything from here been taken out into 'the real world' ?

Was talking about something else yesterday that seems to be neglected in classes but may well have been mentioned on the forum. That of, floorcraft. A very important subject that some dance styles stress from the first class. Its noticeable in some venues that people dance the same way regardless of how busy it is (and has been pointed out frequently..they even do aerials!). In some cases the offending person may not even notice who they crush beneath them; there are mavericks out there who seem to have a motto of 'take the dance space by force'. Should there be more of a mention of such 'Patrick Swayze' concepts as 'dance space', appropriateness of certain moves, changing dancing to suit venue and floor. If this has been done to death ignore it, but it was worth mentioning again i thought! For the beginners among you - is this something you were aware of or would even consider ?

Not sure it has improved my dancing, but has given me a welcome distraction AND an incentive to visit the UK earlier than I was going to originally.

Also made me aware that there is life north of Watford, so now also visiting Scotland and Southport.

Only by convincing me that I am doing things right, and it will get easier! In terms of specific details, probably not significantly.

Re: Has The Forum helped your dancing?

The Forum has definitley help me become a better dancer.

Reading posts about the theory and how people have put that into practice from Land End to John O Groats has been really helpful.

My thanks go out to all of you.

Re: Has The Forum helped your dancing?

After a few weeks of "stirring porrage", sitting down and reading the threads on leading definately helped me and made life more plesant for those I dance with.

Add the reassureing words "We'd rather do simple things well than difficult stuff badly" and my confidance in leading went up.

Being able to look at what other people leant and finding what makes for a fun experiance has helpd me progress quicker than without it. Thanks to all contributors.
