On average, lasses will take about 3 - 5 weeks to start getting the hang of it, lads probably 5 - 7 weeks. Any new activity will take time ... so don't worry. Just keeping going to the classes, using (abusing) the taxi dancers and you'll be as hooked as the rest of us in no time.PS .. no offence but are you Male or female?

Plenty of festive parties coming up soon and if you want a quick fix get yourself along to the Beach Ballroom party in Aberdeen on the 22nd November - it's going to be fantastic. There's a live band - The Jive Aces, a sprung dance-floor and 6 hours of music and dancing. If you can't make that one there's Dundee on the 13th December and then Dunblane on the 19th. p.s Gus - never met a man called Joanne (look at the signature!) - doh!

Sometimes it's harder to go back to a class for the second time - first time around you don't know what to expect, second time you just KNOW how inadequate you're going to feel. But please, trust the experience of all the other dancers you see - they were ALLbeginners once, even the teachers, and they probably felt just as awkward and unco-ordinated as maybe you feel now - but with a little bit of perseverance they've got to where they are now, AND SO WILL YOU!!! Keep going, get up and dance as much as you can, don't wait to be asked, grab a likely=looking chap who seems to know what he's doing, and explain that you're just a beginner and 99 times out of a 100 he'll lead you through some basic moves and you'll enjoy it, and gradually you'll find you're past the beginner stage. Honest! ![]()

Rep Power: 0 Rep.: 10 | Found it really strange that I did not need to wait long for someone to ask me to dance. Once I had plucked up the courage I felt I could ask someone who I had sussed out was not as experienced as some of the others (no offence)! ![]() |

Rep Power: 5 Rep.: 1420 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi Joanne, ceroc is really good fun , You can't expect to feel confident after 1 session, but stick with it and the confidence will come in time. Here are a couple of tips for you. 1) If you have any questions about any of the moves you have learnt just ask the taxi's after all thats what we are there for 2) As daunting as it seems ask loads of people to dance, even them experienced ones that the beginners just gaze at through the evening. They would be more than happy to dance with you and it's the best way to learn. 3) Dance as much as possible, The moves will stick in your head without you realising. Honestly 4) Relax, Have fun and lots of eye contact. I hope this is of some help to you. ![]()

I don't like being told what to do by men either but I just keep in mind that it's a male lead dance and that means if anything goes wrong it's ALWAYS the mans fault With that thought in mind you just put aside the fact your being told what to do!! ![]()

Don't worry - with a bit of practice you'll soon get the hang of telling the man what to do ("it's so obvious that you should have done a drop/comb/etc there" / "can't you even tell this is where you should let me improvise" / "you completely missed that break" / "what on earth was that???") Seriously though, you've already grasped the bit which most beginner ladies struggle with the most - you need to let go of the control and let the man lead. But that means you'll get on best with men who are good at leading, so try not to be put off by thinking that you "won't be good enough". And at the regular class nights (unlike the party you went to on Saturday) there are taxi dancers who are there specifically to help you and dance with you, so please make use of them. Hope to see you soon!
