I had one "bob" dance Friday night, and loved it. The music changed on the next track, and the ladies style changed with it, I loved that dance too.

Rep Power: 0 Rep.: 10 | women have different styles of dancing dont let the bobbing up and down bother you just thik of something else while dancing with the women but also try to concnetrate to, you can't blame the lady for bobbing up and down and if you want the lady to dance into a certain direction then you should guide them into that direction. ![]() |

Rep Power: 3 Rep.: 381 ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Bobbing ladies Dancing Baggage We nearly all come into MJ with some dancing "baggage" from a previous life. (Some may say that life without MJ is no life at all.) Could it be that the syncopated and bobbing/bouncy ladies, and their male counterparts, carry over this malign influence with them from the crowded floors of drug fuelled Disco dens or Club scene slumming? I've certainly never seen this behaviour taught or encouraged at Ceroc and I can't believe it might stem from the semi-circle as has been suggested elsewhere. Yet, somehow, it's there, slinking in scurrilously through the back door to affect all age groups. For my own part, the baggage stems from Ballroom dancing a long, long, time ago. This brings with it half-forgotten memories of the "rise and fall" over several steps (which MJ isn't supposed to have ... steps that is) rather than any sort of bounce on each beat, as well as a tendency for expansive movement with rather large steps and a desperate plea for sufficient floorspace. Besides this, a nostalgia for music recalling this past golden era of Big Band dance as well as the subsequent Rock and Roll revolution from which circumstances prevented participation at the time. Marital responsibilities and "All that no Jazz". |

Rep Power: 0 Rep.: 73 | Re: Bobbing ladies In my limited experience, the majority of "bobbing" ladies are very keen and full of energy. They witness the very stylish dancers and try to emulate their movements. Unfortunately at an early stage this seems to be how it manifests itself . An advert for a style workshop often helps if thrown into a conversation while dancing. Early doors, I try to keep the hands as low as possible when dancing with "Joeys" so that it restricts their upward movement. Good grief this sounds like a wrestling match? Some ladies are just so exhuberent that there is nothing that can be done. Under such circumstances I find making them wear a full-size copper diving helmet puts a final end to the practice , probably an end to any ladies ever dancing with me again too! ![]() |

Followers should follow, leaders should lead, the music is your guide, and MJ has few hard and fast rules. A very quick summary of my post if you don't feel like clicking the link to the origional.

Rep Power: 3 Rep.: 27 | Bobbing is a village near Maidstone. I have never danced with any of the Bobbing ladies. There is also another village near Maidstone called Loose. The Loose women, apparently, have a bit of a reputation ! As Chef is from Maidstone, perhaps he could enlighten us ? |

Rep Power: 4 Rep.: 177 ![]() | Bobbing Ladies & Bouncy Men As a Taxi dancer it's been useful to see some of the answers to the Joey question, and although this thread has all been about Bobbing Ladies (fair enough, that is the title!) there are also some Bouncy Men out there as well! So I wonder if any ladies (or guys) have tips on how they deal with that phenomemon? |

As a follower, who is by no means extremely experienced but who now feels she has got to the stage where she can concentrate on other things besides just the moves, find I try and match my style of dancing to two things - the style of the person leading me and the music. I find that which ever is stronger (or has the stronger force - please don't get David B started on 'the force' again! ) will have the biggest influence on the way I'm dancing. If a guy is dancing slotted so will I, if the music says 'be smooth and sexy' I'll do my best , if a guy is dancing through all the breaks in the music but the music is willing me to interpret it sometimes I will whether I'm being led or not .So, my point here is that if either the music or the guy I'm dancing with is willing me to 'dance bouncy' then I will. If they're not then I won't. ![]() I can think in particular of one guy I dance with regularly who loves to 'dance bouncy' - sometimes I can handle it and we both go like mad things and have a really good time, sometimes either my mood or the music is wrong, and we tone it down and still have fun dancing together. I can understand that, whether you're a man or a woman, dancing with a bouncy partner when you're 'not in the mood' can be troublesome but may I suggest the attitude of 'if you can't beat them join them'? And if that fails, it's only three muniutes of your life, so put up with it, smile sweetly and take a couple of paracetamol once you get off the floor! S. x
