Re: Are black and white shoes scary???

Attempting to wrenching back the thread from the scary shoe-photo hijacking...

I used to think that all B&W shoe-wearers were elitist (and as Gus said, even a little intimidating), so I avoided them. Then I just used to think they simply signalled a jitter-bug-y person, which wasn't my style, so I avoided them. Now I don't look at people's shoes, so I may or may not avoid them... Sorry ZW, I'm too busy admiring your legs

However, when I do look down, and if I do notice the wearer is a B&W-er, I may occasionally alter my style to be more jump-y, so I guess they still have an affect on me...

My first pair of shoes especially bought for Ceroc were b'n'w's but since I only have size three feet You don't see much under my trousers.

Not wildly specific! What do you mean by jitterbuggy? Is it just a jumpier, bouncier style of Ceroc?

Yep, I think I meant "lindy-hoppy" (Hey, it was late), i.e. rock-and-roll style, lots of jumping around, etc. Nothing against that style, but I just don't have the energy for that sort of thing

The B&W shoes / spatz seemed to me at that point to signify someone who was into that style, but that could be me just misinterpreting signals. Maybe we should all have different coloured handkerchiefs dangling from our pockets

You know, people with b'n'ws can alter their style, too. Wearing b'n'w shoes doesnt mean youre "stuck" in one specific dance style...... I don't even DO jitterbug or lindy (not by choice, just cus there's no such classes in or near Dundee ), only ceroc.... And to my great delight, over the past six months or so, there seems to be an increasing number of people with B'nWs!!!!! And they're not Lindy Hoppy or Jitterbuggy people, either. Soh......

And ZW's shoes are DEFINITELY much scarier than my innocent "jive hoppers"!

Oh, certainly, I didn't mean any disrespect, and I'd say the average B&W Shoe Dancer (if there is such a thing) is probably better than the average Non-BWSD (!).
However, I think the title of the thread does raise an interesting question, and I did have an instinctive agreement - not so much that they're scary, or intimidating, but that they do to me give off a signal.

OK, it's an extreme generalization and stereotypicalisation (?), and it could be just me thinking it, but I used to associate that type of shoe with that type of dancing. However, as I said, now I don't look / care too much; but I remember I did look and notice as a beginner...

I wish!!!!

But I do think a lot of people, just like yourself, associate b'n'w shoes with a certain style and ability of dancing, and as I've seen from some of the replies to this thread, quite a few people (in particular beginners) are a bit intimidated by them.....

But we (b'n'w shoe wearers) are quite harmless, really! Some of us, anyway!

I think they're quite sinister, nothing to do with the people wearing them or their dancing prowess though. Did the Penguin in Batman (version showing late 70's-ish) wear them...? For some reason I associate them with baddies. (And I think they're a bit kinky too.)

Maybe it's just me...

Woo-hooooo! Little Monkey, the evil villain!

So from now on, if people don't dance with me, the dj doesn't play the music I like, or people hurt me on the dancefloor (or otherwise?), I'll chop their fingers off!!??! Or give them a nice new pair of concrete shoes (and paint them b'n'w!! ) and take them for a nice swim in the nearest river or the sea!!
