I always thought it was to keep the novices from messing up the intermediate lesson for the more experienced (?) dancers.

Before I get flamed, I wish we'd had these consolidation lessons when I first started. I spent the first 6 weeks of my Ceroc life floundering in the "Beginners Only" line of the intermediate lesson where I learned.............nothing.

The beginners line was a considerable improvement on what went before, which was beginner class and intermediate class, and no transition stage. A lot of people dropped out rather than try to make the jump. I hope it was a beginner line, rotating, with Taxi-dancers.

I find the consolidation class really useful - they just go over the moves taught in the beginners class in more detail.
