I have given up smoking

I have now given up smoking for 5 weeks.
I feel great i am never out of breath anymore, and i seem to be a lot taller than previous.

The point i am getting to however is that i can now smell a smoker at twenty yards.
I find i am having trouble dancing with smokers, i can smell the smoke on their breath on their clothes and on their hair.

As an ex smoker i should not find this hard, but i do. I know that i must have smelt this bad when i smoked so how do non smokers get over this?

I am experiencing real difficulties with this.
Any advice would be appreciated greatly.

I'm an ex-smoker (11 years so far!), and FWIW I used to just wait until your back was turned, point at you and whisper about how disgusting you smelt.

I've never been a smoker, but it's really hideous isn't it.....

Personally, if I know someone has just been out to smoke, I generally try to avoid dancing with them for a while. Depending on how good a dancer they are, and how much I want to dance with them, the 'while' can last anything from 1 or 2 songs, to a lifetime!

Develop Anosmia like me. I never worry about people smelling of smoke any more.

As the ex webmaster of the Anosmia UK support group I'd be more than happy to suggest ways to acquire this most useful disability.

My personal favourite would have to be severe head trauma. Why not neglect to wear a hard hat while erecting your scaffolding.

on a serious note though, really there's not much you can do , short of losing your sense of smell. Ironically one of the major causes of Anosmia (apart from Head trauma that is) is actually Smoking.

I've never experienced the smell of cigarette smoke (or ANY smell.. EVER for that matter) but I hear it is particularly repugnant. Unless you continually mask the smell somehow (chew mints perhaps?) then I don't know.

You could (now here's a thought) spray anyone that comes near you with a lit cigarette with air freshener. they might get the point and booger off. of course, they may also ignite and I've heard the smell of burning hair and flesh is considerably worse than cigarette smoke.. so perhaps spraying them with flammable aerosols isn't such a good idea after all.

Congrats on the stopping smoking though.. Look forward to tasting your food again (which may or may not be a good thing.. depending on how well trouble cooks )

Well done mate! You've cracked it, it gets much easier from now on I quit about nine months ago now - from a 30+ a day for 30 years position so I know what you have achieved.

I don't know the answer to your question though, it is something that just doesn't bother me. For some reason I have no problem with people smoking around me, it doesn't upset me and it doesn't even give me the urge to smoke.

Trust me Gav, i get very nervous when DTS has wind which is 99% of the time. The reason my nose slightly curves up at the front is because the bottom of it melted.

you will also notice my eyebrows are burnt at both corners. This is the whiplash effect of running through the green haze.
