12 kids, no job and a luxury 8 bedroom detached house

I was reading some trashy mag in the hair dressers yesterday and there was an article about this couple. Neither of them worked...stating that looking after their 12 children was a full time job for both of them.

Their previous house was burnt down by their 5 year old daughter who was playing with matches or something and they have been rehoused in a 'well to do' area in Berkshire. A detached 8 bedroom house. I wish I could show you a picture. It's a beautiful house with a grand driveway, electric gates, etc.

They also claim £44,000 per year in benefits.

They said they thought about getting jobs but worked out they would be £100 per week worse off.

The local residents are up in arms, saying they have worked all their lives for a half million pound house, etc and the family are a rowdy lot that dont fit in.

You cant blame them for taking advantage I suppose. When the government bend over and allow themselves to be shafted up the backside by people like that. They are laughing all the way to the bookies.

Dont get me started

I would just ask them 1 question. No malice intended.

"Why have 12 kids when you cannot support them?"

As I say, no malice towards them intended. There MAY be a valid reason.

What a long article. By the time I got to the end, the kids had ages by 1 or 2 years... Pah. Daily Mail

They "may" be catholic and as such unable/unwilling to use contraception?

I used to be friends with a guy who was youngest of 9 !! a nice catholic family.

That's still not a valid reason for having 12 children. All that says is that they follow their religion, but like to have sex. If you can't support 12 children and refuse to use contraception, don't have sex.

Anyway, can't Catholics use the rhythm method?

Are you taking the fekkin plss?

I don't care about their religion or ability use birth control. Have as many kids as you like, but take financial responsibility for them yourself.

I would be better off if I didn't work, in fact, I hate going to work and leaving my kids with a child minder, but I choose to take care of myself and my kids without relying on the state.

So, if we move me and my 3 kids in with you and yours, give up our jobs and burn your house to the ground, we'll be quids in!

Maybe they like kids? Are we telling people how many children they should have now?

And frankly, if staying at home means that there aren't 12 more criminals roaming the streets doing drugs and shooting people, I think the money paid is a bargain.

We're in a welfare state - there will always be this sort of extreme case, it doesn't mean that the overall principle of supporting parents is a bad one.

Also, the Daily Mail wheels this sort of thing out when they run out of anything else to say - I remember they did a report about a similar case in Southgate a few years ago. "Blah blah outrage spongers blah blah" - I think that was the title.

I agree...but is it right that they are better off on benefits than if they worked? Where is the incentive?

Of course not. And fine, have 12 kids if that's what you want to do. But suppor them yourself financially. If there was no welfare state, you'd have to.

Agree with you about the DM though.

"Right"? What's that then?

Maybe it's just a Friday afternoon thing, but I just can't be bothered getting worked up about this. Possibly I've used up my puff on the Princess Diana thing.
