Nicky Haslam Retires

Last night, Chris and I attended one of Nicky Haslams freestyle dances at Willoughby, (her regular venue where her office is based), during the course of the evening we were greatly saddened to hear the announcement, by Nicky, that she was retiring as the principle of the Ceroc and Modern Jive Dance Company Australia and was handing the reigns over to Julie Gunn.
Nicky will still be supporting Julie and will continue to run several nights for her for a while.
A sad time for the Australian Modern Jive Dance scene

different perspectives - I see it as an exciting development!! Nicky is not leaving the dance scene just changing her priorities with in it. With less business demands on her - I'm looking forward to seeing what she produces in her new role of creative director!!!

Re: Nicky Haslam Retires

I see this as an awesome development.

Julie is an amazing organiser, and has built up her own venues, under CMJ.

Manly and Willoughby will benifit greatly by Nicky concertrating on them, they are both fantastic venues and will be bigger and better with Nicky's focus.

Julie has proved she has a "can do" attitude and is well respected.

It is not exactly fully retiring, it is a re-focus..

I am sure Julie will put in fresh drive and fresh ideas with the full support of Nicky.

Thanks Nicky, for all your hard work in the Aussie scene, your efforts have been recognised world wide.

Does that mean that Julie will be stepping back from choreographing??? it will be a shame for ceroc in Oz if that's the case! her track record of great routines is wonderful!

Re: Nicky Haslam Retires

Big News this....

Nicky is really the James Cronin of Australia, and is definately well worth her place in the "Hall of Fame".

Many congratulations to Nicky for bringing Ceroc to Australia and for all she has achieved over the years!!!

Yes, the girl is a bit special.

However, it should very much be seen as a great development, rather than a retirement.

Nicky will still continue to be involved in the dance scene, working on class routines. Choreography, the champs event etc. etc. If anything it should help to make her contributions to these events all the better as she no longer has the administration hanging over her head.

Julie is a fantastic administrator (and very cool dancer), I think that the combination of the two moving forward will be an unstoppable force for years to come.
