Try Asda online. They work out cheaper than the high street. Asda now have opticians in some stores where you can get your check ups done and get issued with a prescription.

"Gotten" is an old, old word from Middle English, now mostly lost from modern standard British English, except for phrases like "ill-gotten gains". American English has retained the word to have a subtle distinction from "got", where it indicates obtaining, rather than simply having.

A number of regional British dialects also allow "gotten".

Here's a couple of links worth reading...

Wish I could wear contact lenses, my prescription is too wacky for all but the most expensive soft ones....and the cleaning solutions really aggravate my eyes

I wear daily lenses – I found the extended wear ones too dry for my eyes.

Seriously thinking about laser surgery though.

It's 'gitten' in at least some Lancashire dialect:

'ast'a gitten? - hast tha/thou gitten? (clearly a throwback to middle English) - have you got? - do you have?

Err..."totally mince"? What is that - rhyming slang? Even if so, I thought that was 'mince pies' = 'eyes', which doesn't work in this sentence...

No, it just means they're rubbish. Maybe it's a Scottish thing?

Yes, It's a Scottish thing.

Note also "thick as mince" means 'extremely stupid'.

I dare you to try these phrases at work this week, Barry.

"Mr so-and-so, your prospects of success in this case are, quite frankly, totally mince, and you would be as thick as mince to proceed".

Go on, we'll help you find a new job when you get sacked for it.

Together with the effect that if you eye are constantly getting worse then they will lose their sight again quickly straight after the op. It's not permanent.

Don't listen to them ducasi, I have many friends who have had the op and are more than happy with the results.

IMO the only draw back is when you get to your mid 40's when you will start needing reading glasses as the op only covers short OR long sightedness

If I hadn't have found my fantastic lenses which allow me to sleep in them, I would have gone that route.

Just make sure you choose a recommended surgeon to give you the confidence

Yes, and it's much cheaper. From many suppliers (that's a Google search).

You need an up-to-date prescription, but you can get that for the price of an eye test.

I use Vision Direct, who were still the cheapest for my brand when I checked just now. They keep my prescription on file and you can tell them to email you a re-order reminder. But I've got no reason to think any other supplier is different - if you know the exact kind you prefer, the product is always exactly the same, so just pick the cheapest.

I had my eyes zapped about 3 years ago and have never regretted it - downside is I now need reading glasses for close up work but I have no problem reading some of the crap on this forum
