lorry drivers taking a dump?

Listening to radio two the other day (yes im old and yes i admit to being a radio 2 listener) they were discussing lorry drivers and how they have no toilet facilities where they park their lorries for resting/sleeping etc which tend to be in a big layby somewhere or side road.

One of the callers said he could see a tree that looked like it was a xmas tree as it had loads of hanging bags off it where lorry drivers had done there business into a carrier bag and chucked it out the window. They were just hanging there.

but that did get me thinking. Where are they supposed to do it.?

are there any lorry drivers on here that can throw some light on it?

I have a big lorry parking layby round the corner from my flat and i have not checked yet but im sure there must be human feaces all over the place.

Apparently motor racing drivers pee in their pants if they're caught short in those long races.

If I caught a lorry driver doing it I'd throw the bag through his window. (And run away, obviously.) Or, better still, follow him home and crap on his doorstep. (At about 3am, obviously.)

I was always under the impression that "an" came before a vowel sound - and unless you're from Yorkshire - Horrified does not start with a vowel. Personally I hate that written and even more so when people try to pronounce "an hotel" or some such. gah

The article a is used before consonant sounds; an is used before vowel sounds.


Words beginning with h, o and u sometimes begin with a vowel sound, sometimes a consonant sound.

I didn't know that I simply thought, 'an' came before a vowel and 'a' came before a consonant.

So based on that..

A horrified flower = correct posh
An 'orrified flower = correct cockney

Seriously though, that article does make sense, as that's how we actually speak (not the cockney version, in my case though)

The "urgent delivery with difficult paperwork" is a standing joke with drivers.......

....and of course they (or their employers) won't pay for the parking at truck stops and services either, so end up on lay-bys and industrial estates.

I'm not sure if it is an urban myth, but isn't it legal for lorry drivers to relieve themselves on the offside front tyre? Something to do with the days of horse and carts, when the driver couldn't leave the cart to find somewhere more suitable?

Anyone know if this is just an urban myth, or actually true?
