So fed up with extreme political correctness ( apparently, in the NHS, we can no longer use the words Asian, african or blind people!) and this made me laugh so much. A few years ago it became policy that we were no longer allowed to refer to the Visually Impaired (VI) and now have to say Blind and Partially Sighted (BAPS). My only guess is that this comes from the movement of not classifying people by their disorder. For instance i dont say "schizophrenics" but would refer to people who have schizophrenia ie their is more to a person than an illness or disorder. This is partly from the negative connetations of mental health disorders but i was surpised to see this in the context of language for physical problems. And i refuse to stop using the word asian as how else am i describe ethnic origion??? I need to comment on this when i write reports as cultural background can affect ability to do tests. The NHS is a bit of a nightmare to work in at times  |
