Let me clarify that... a "practical" sense of logic.

Anyway... if being knowledgable = one's ability to retain information and being well-informed (kind of like being a book), and being intelligent = means that you have the propensity to learn things quicker than most - then it seems to be that it's quite possible to be one and not the other.
As for common sense - the Collins English Dictionary defines this as "good practical understanding". After having worked with some very knowledgable, and very intelligent people I can vouch from experience that it is possible to be both knowledgable and intelligent (either/or/both) yet have minimal common sense

(as for answering the question of the thread - having intelligence would assist becoming knowledgable faster... so I think I would rate intelligence over knowledge... only cos at some point you could possibly have both!)

in my time I have worked with some very thick smart people .. some of my friends may actually say I fall into that category too.. I have to admit.. I probably do !

let me see..

Encyclopaedic knowledge of maths, computer programming and obscure movie quotes, able to fathom out complex problems and puzzles, equations and coding glitches.. and yet.. as thick as two short planks, more scatterbrained than the nutty professor and not blessed with the common sense I was born with

So having "Storage capacity" (Knowledge) + "Processsing power" (Intelligence) does not nessessarily make one "Clever"

Asking which is more important is like asking "which is more important Plain or Purl?" when the person in question can't even sew !

Obscure knitting related post of the week !

Incidently, I am training an infinite number of monkeys to type the works of shakespeare (I can randomly press with the best of 'em)- but they won't all fit in my house

Where do you get an infinite number of monkeys at this time of year, anyway? I thought they were out of season.

I'm more curious about where you get the infinite number of keyboards for them to type on. And where you store them when they're not in use. And what do you feed the monkeys on. And do the RSPCA know about your overcrowded monkey situation?

I got an infinite number of bananas (and keyboards) from the same "infinite emporium" at the bottom of my street (I believe there's one of these everywhere). However, it's proving difficult to issue each monkey with one keyboard (well they take take a backup too) and their lifetimes banana supply.

My lack of an infinite number of toilets is proving problematic.

What? With an infinite number of monkeys, some ninja trained, to protect me ? who cares.

You sure you don't mean Hilbert's Emporium? They have a good hotel chain if you need temporary accommodation for your monkeys too.

According to the guy at my local 'infinate emproium', there is a nationwide shortage of these at the moment. Try infinate diapers instead.

Even if they could sew, the plain or purl question wouldn't make much sense unless they could also knit

However, to bring together the knitting (or in this case crochet) metaphors with intelligence and maths... see here

Ok, I was being general, not pedantic about the use of terms information etc. Obviously a collection of facts is not in itself knowledge, it has to be meaningfully linked together in a system.

We could get onto paradigm shifts as well...

Yes please. I like paradigm shifts!

(BTW... I read a bit of that link that Ducasi posted. I'm not too fond of some of the author's terminology, so I'd stick to your own words, Lynn.)
