Rep Power: 3 Rep.: 1010 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Fuel Prices - Time to act Hi, I have copied the email that is currently circulating around the country at the moment. It may not seem much but it is the only way people may take notice so Im going to do it. ---------------------original mail-------------------------------- Hi All, Seems like a good idea to be repeated.... See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it We are hitting 95p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying £1 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil>companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join in! Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.> But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... .. THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso. ----------------------end mail----------------------

Texaco is the other one. I haven't bought petrol for the 3 for ages, but I'm just one person. |

If we all act on this now it will, at the very least, send the message to the big player that the public is getting sick and tired of paying ridiculous amounts. I dont believe it will force them down to 69p but I do believe it will, if everyone sticks to it, make the powers that be (the government) take notice.

There is a petrol station in the village where I live but I rarely go there - only if I have discovered I am almost out of petrol I would never fill the tank. Must check who it is. I've only been driving about 3 years, but I have seen massive rises in petrol over that short time. |

This is all your fault. Please fix immediately the following faults in your creation: A) You've set up the world so that burning petrol is leading to global warming, and consequent death and destruction. Please alter this so that burning petrol only leads to it staying sunny during important cricket and tennis matches. B) Frankly, you didn't give us enough oil in the first place, choosing instead to waste lots of space on useless stuff like gold and diamonds, which cannot be used to propel me to and from dance venues. Please inspire a scientist to come up with a way to propel cars by burning diamonds. C) Worst of all, you appear to have placed the majority of oil in the hands of corrupt dictators, inefficient economies, and places that we need to invade. Please relocate all this inaccessible oil to Sweden. Yours "faithfully", |

As far as I'm aware there are quite close ties between Shell and BP, but again, they are separate companies. And it's because of this inaccuracy, plus the naivety over where the supermarkets source their petrol that would make me ignore this email, if I owned a car. If you really want to "act", then leave you car at home, or sell it and use public transport or get on a bike. ![]()

I cycle 22 miles a day round trip to and from work. I do it because its good exercise. I even moved to Bradford so I could cycle further into work in Leeds. I must be mad. I want to do something about the fuel costs because I dont think its fair on those that have to drive. Totally agree though, I think more people should be out on a bike or at least public transport. Unfortunately its the old public transport catch 22. The service I have experienced has been sporadic at best - late buses, 2 carriages on a rush hour train. Things like that. They 'claim' they need people to take public transport to get the money to improve things Call me silly but im sure thats why we are paying 95p per litre for fuel. As for the petrol protest, tis true I have no idea about the make up of these things but for people like me doing nothing is worse than doing something. To boycott stations such as this in protest wont bring down prices but it will cause an inconvenience to the companies involved. As long as it isnt a major inconvenience to me to do it I say why not. We do nothing we pay over £1 a litre for fuel. This wont force people out of cars, it will force them out of money ![]()

75% or more of the price is Tax and the oil companies make very little money selling oil in the uk If you want to ACT aim it at the government or blow up gas supplies to dent their profits

Yes I did think about this 'throw away comment'. Let me say for the record blowing up gas supplies is dangerous and very silly and i am totally against it I notice im now over £50 a tank again so when we all take to the streets ill be there ![]()
