OK there will always be a few clowns, but the pace of drinking is generally slower. Because you can go for a pint (particularly in Edin) anytime you want, there is no compunction to neck a few asap. I like the civilised feature of it and the freedom to choose: almost feels like the Govt trust me to make up my own mind on something. AND, it makes for a GREAT bender every once in a while!! ![]()

So longer opening hours means longer time of disturbed sleep for some local residents to bars. |

Rep Power: 3 Rep.: 105 ![]() | Re: Tepid debate time: the Demon Drink Living in Amsterdam you can pretty much keep going all through the night if you know where to go. What you find is that you pretty quickly settle into a routine and often impose your own limit of 10 or 11 in the evening. You do find, at times tho', that you miss the "push" of the final bell and, like staying on the sofa watching tv cos you're too tired to get up and go to bed, you often find yourself staying because you can't be bothered going! Drinking patterns change - most people drink halfs over here, and in many case more soft drinks and less alchohol. What is interesting is I've often received calls at midnight or 1am saying "meet you down the pub for a drink" and you go as if it is as normal as going for a drink at 6pm. At the end of the day, those people that would have drunk all night will drink all night, and those that wouldn't - won't. I don't think things will change much. After all, in London it has been possible to drink 24 hours a day anyway if you know where to go - the church being one venue, and how many of us have stayed out at clubs til 3 or 4 in the morning without a second thought? Those that want to go the whole 24 hours, go back for a house party. |

It always seems ridiculous that in this day and age we were chucked out at 11pm One of the best bits of being abroad on holiday, is that relaxed feeling, knowing your life isn't about rushing and clock watching... I'm sure once the initial novelty wears off, people will drink about the same but just take longer about it! I think it's a great idea! ![]()
