Wellies or no wellies

This is going to sound rather strange but where i look after a horse i was asked by the farmer if i would consider fostering some lambs for three months. The idea sounds rather good as i have a large garden and it takes up most of my weekend mowing, plus i know my kids would love it. I'm a bit worried as to what my neighbour (with 3 wheeler) would think, also i know nothing about sheep. Just wanted to know wether other people would think it was a good idea or shall i just forget about the idea and just take on the pigs?. Also would they eat everything in their path?

(was joking about the pigs)

Re: Wellies or no wellies

My family fostered a lamb when I was about 8! He was called Nigel and I don't remember him being any trouble at all. My brothers and I loved him dearly. And we fell for the story concocted to explain his eventual disappearance, en-route to the land of mint sauce; that he'd been loaned to some friends as a lawnmower, eaten a toadstool and died.

I'd go for it. Your kids will think it's fantastic!

just remember the pain and torture caused by a simple hamster

Lambs are much bigger than hamsters (and lamb poo is bigger than hamster poo as well)

probably just as well buying a picture of animals and looking at them

Careful, it might be against local bye-laws or house covenants and just the chance for your delightful neighbour to complain officially.

This is one thing that worries me. She hates me, not that i have done anything wrong. I would love to have some but this would be the one thing that would stop me

Rarely cooked and pinkly juicy near the bone. But tenderness seems to be a bit of a hit and miss affair. A Sunday gamble from time to time.

I think that was the last thing on Dee's mind.

Buy? If it's to be worth anything at all the mint must be freshly gathered from the garden.

Re: Wellies or no wellies

The only thing I know about sheep (and it isn't a lot I'm afraid) is that they are not good to have near pregnant women. Apparently they can make them miscarry somehow - but this could just be when they're lambing. I'd have to ask the almost-in-laws who are farmers to confirm though.

OK, I'm feeling a bit of a fraud. The thing is, with mint, you have to devise some way to contain it or it will take over a garden even the size of my neglected plot in no time at all. An', oh boy, gorbloimey, once more I've started seeing rabbits. The plauge is about to break forth once again. Will there be black ones this year? Oh, for a shotgun and a license to aim at rabbits and those evil magpies.

Did someone mention rabbits? They taste lovely too! I have guns, ferrets, nets..... if the bunnies are a problem, give me a call next autumn and I'll see what I can do about them

How about this for a cool idea.

Get the lambs.
Feed them nothing but fresh mint from the garden.
Cook and eat.

Hey presto - pre-flavoured meat.

And if they ate nothing but mint, bang goes the problem of bad smells. It would always smell like tooth paste.....
