Re: A good CV

If it's your CV then, surely, the template is your life.

No?!?

Just give them a link to this web site... Surely everything they need to know is right here?

Tips
1. USE a Spell checker
2. USE a Grammer checker (Or get someone who knows proper english to check it!)
3. Keep it short (Which shouldnt be too much of a problem) and to the point!

Too right you shouldn't. And if s38 would have kept undating it as he went along, things wouldn't be so complicated.

Nothing in S38's life is easy (apart from the man himself)

Re: A good CV

It probably depends on the type of job

When selecting I always look at “other interests “

A friend got an interview simply because she put down, “ballooning” as her main interest .The guy doing the selection wanted to meet a balloonist, and yes she got the job

We were interviewing for a new sales lady. One of our standard questions is “what the most interesting thing you have done in the last 6 mouths” Someone phoned up and asked what would happen if she told the truth. We ask, what is the truth. “nearly murdering my husband” was the reply

If fact she did not put that on her application form, but we just had to interview her to find out what happened. Yes. She got the job is now our number one sales lady

I am always impressed by people who deliver their CV by hand

But we are a very small outfit; the above might not work with a big company

Good luck

The last time I applied for a dream job, as, marine photographer ( this was a long time ago)
It transpired the successful candidate had already been chosen. The rules stated the job had to be advertised But there really wasn’t’ a vacancy

Re: A good CV

Whatever you do don't use a template - they are always either boring or too busy, or if it is a good template they will have seen it before. It is much better to know what you want to include, put it all down (in reverse chronological order and also in order of relevance i.e. related experience first, then other job experience) and only then do some fancy formatting (or get a kind friend to do that for you, if you really can't do it yourself). That way, you put in what needs to be said, not what fits in the space, and it looks original, like you took some care over it the way they'd probably like you to take care over your work.
