Re: Mid life crises

Midlife transition" is a natural stage that happens at some point (usually at about age 40, give or take 20 years).

Midlife transition can include:

Discontentment or boredom with life or with the lifestyle (including people and things) that have provided fulfillment for a long time

Feeling restless and wanting to do something completely different

Questioning decisions made years earlier and the meaning of life

Confusion about who you are or where your life is going

Middle age is a time in which adults take on new job responsibilities and therefore often feel a need to reassess where they are and make changes while they feel they still have time.

And the symptoms...?

Boredom and exhaustion, or frantic energy
Self-questioning
Daydreaming
Irritability, unexpected anger
Acting on alcohol, drug, food or other compulsions
Greatly decreased or increased sexual desire
Sexual affairs, especially with someone much younger
Greatly decreased or increased ambition

Well that just sounds sooo poo! I don't want to get old!!!

Donna....

We've told you before.

Making comments like these, when you're only 23, isn't likely to earn you many friends!!

Re: Mid life crises

Guilty as charged Well actually I cut out the boring middle bit and just avoided growing up - my sister had been calling me a kidult for years before the recent eponymous film came out. What's scary is that when I did that BBC "How Old Is Your Brain" quiz, I scored exactly half of my natural age.

When I was a child, people in their early twenties had steady jobs, were getting married and having children and settling down. As I've grown older, a lot of the people around me have also kept a more youthful outlook, in their dress, lifestyle, whatever. Whether your average Victorian, or Edwardian felt this as he, or she grew up I couldn't say, but this change in lifestyles, teenage rebellion, personal freedom etc does seem to have originated a little bit after WW1 (Flappers, Charleston, etc) and then exploded amongst those who lived through WW11 and their children as Swing, Rock'n'Roll and Pop culture developed to reflect it.

Right, that's enough of the serious, reflective, self-questioning stuff, I'm off to get my motor bike out and day-dream about those younger girls, before somebody makes me irritable again.

A lot of women have their first mid-life crisis in their late 20s/early 30s so not long for you to wait. And just think, you'll be middle aged in just over a year.

I think I've had about 3 mid-life crisis and everyone of them has been fun. I'm rather looking forward to the next one - that'll be the one for the pony tail, baseball cap and a silly sports car with an "MM" (Male Menopause) sticker on the boot. Wonderful!

So I get to look forward not only to wrinkles but an emotional rollercoaster too!

So what were the advantages of getting old again?
