Drinking and Dancing

I think, we are all aware; some venues are reluctant to hold MJ events because we don’t drink enough

[i]in addition to that have you ever noticed how beginners when nervous tend to drink a few pints a night but as you get more experienced you cut right down - i certainly did when i started and that was only a year ago!

now its water all the way - except the odd glass of wine on party nights!

I guess a fair number of us have heard of at least one event that has lost its venue for lack of money being spent on booze. The only thing approaching an answer I can think of is to find a venue that doesn't rely solely on alcohol sales from dancers to turn a profit.

I have been dancing 7 years and still have a few pints

I used to drink when I first started too, (to calm the nerves) but 4 years down the line I don't touch a drop EVER!!

I don't see the point in getting mullered if you are dancing at the end of the day it makes you off balance and in a word cr4p!! There only a few people that I know that can still dance well if not better when they have had a few pints. Mr Hudson being one of them

Often I will be the driver to/from a venue which places a limit on how much I can drink. If not (or if on a weekender) I do like a pint or two as anyone 'dancing' with me at Biggleswade 2 weeks ago will have noticed

I am not sure that drinking improves your dancing but it certainly makes you feel like you're dancing well even if you're not

The downside is the accelerated dehydration - combined with inadequate cooling at many venues it's a recipe for a nasty day-after.

As someone who stopped drinking just over two years ago MJ has been the perfect hobbie to take up, you don't feel like a leper cos you don't drink, funny I have met quite a few people who have pack in drinking and now dance.

I have no problem with other who drink as long as they aren't parts when they do, I very nearly walked off the floor at Camber cos a guy was quite pi$$ed and been an idiot.

Some guy are fine, after they have had a drink infect quite funny, DirtyD, Russell Saxby, Colin, Lorry's friend (he is soooo funny)

Drinking and dancing certainly don't mix!! I can understand beginners doing it to calm the nerves but they do tend to cut down when they become more experienced and gain more confidence.

I don't really get to drink a lot these days because of dancing, but then I can live without it. i don't believe you need to drink to have a good time. It's actually nice waking up in the morning actually being able to remember what a good time you had the night before, and that if anybody was to tell you you were dancing on the tables last night, you'd know they were fibbing!!!

Totally agree! I've not drunk when I go out for years - whether it's dancing, going to a gig or whatever. Just don't need it.

When I dance, I dance. When I drink, I drink. Can't mix the two - dancing spoils the enjoyment of a malt whisky, and alcohol ruins my ability to spin.

I agree with this but the one thing i will say is that having a drink makes you lose your inhibitions!
im not saying il never drink again, but i have my limitations and im much more careful now not to exceed them when i do drink

i agree with the cooling too - im one of those people who overheats very quickly and goes bright red so the alcohol can only make that worse.sometimes i wonder why i bother with make up!

People watch performers dancing on stage and they think these are the best dancers and they want to copy them. But it’s not possible to reproduce this style on the social dance floor. You can’t dance in the same way on the social dance floor. What performers do on a stage is rehearsed 100 times to get it right – you can’t do that in social dancing and you can’t use the space amount of space.
The result is social dancers in Europe want big dance floors – but they aren’t listening to the music when they dance. They move to the music, make moves they know to the music – but moving to music is not the same as dancing to music. This makes social dancing too technical, too mechanical.
This problem has created the problem of poor bar takings. People think they’ve got to learn everything 120 per cent and not make mistakes so they’ve got to be sober 120 per cent. These technical moves can’t be reproduced if you drink. So nobody drinks, everybody drinks tap water and you need vast spaces to perform moves.
