A good way to start the day ![]() You're then set up to do the Tower of London, The Monument and St Pauls Cathedral. From there it's a quick walk across the "wobbly bridge" to Tate Modern and The Globe theatre. R-K

Trouble with London is there is too much on offer sometimes - many's the time I've just wound up staying as making a decision is too difficult! |

It all depends what your looking for.. If the weathers nice, then I'd recommend going to Camden market in the morning, it's full of weirdo's and has a strange but nice buzzing atmosphere, then for a little bit of tranquility, take a trip down the canal (which you catch from the market) to 'little venice' which has a couple of nice little bars, where you can sit outside and have a drink or the other direction which passes through London zoo.If you want to see a bit more of London, from a wider view, take a trip on the London eye, followed by a boat trip on the Thames, or maybe get on an open top bus. Something else I think you might enjoy (knowing what your into) is behind the scenes tour of theatreland, these often take place on Sundays, as the theatres are shut..http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/home/tour/tours I'm not sure if you like museums or art galleries but there's loads. How about Buckingham palace and walk to Trafalgar square, then from there, it's just a short walk to Covent garden, where you can watch all the street shows and the audience participation is all part of the fun.

For a "London Sunday" feel, you could take a boat along the river to Greenwich - it brings you right next to the Cutty Sark, the maritime museum, Queens House and Greenwich Park, where you can visit the Royal Observatory. There are also weekend craft markets selling originals (rather than tat) next to Cutty Sark. If the weather clouds over, there is always the Cutty Sark pub and almost opposite is the bargain Pie & Mash Shop. If you walk through the markets you'll come out on Nelson Road. The Bar du Musee there is a great place for lunch - it looks like a small & dark French bistro at the front, but opens out onto a huge conservatory with garden & bbq at the rear. If you want something more cultural, try walking from London Eye (if you want to go on it, pre-book tickets otherwise you could be queueing for hours), along the South Bank taking in the National Theatre, skateboarders, Globe Theatre and ending up at the Tate Modern.

The Theatre Museum is really good, but we have such great museums here in London, and I keep meaning to make a point to visit all of them, so far I've only managed about 5 in the 7 years I've lived here! Camden Market and Camden Lock are definitely worth a visit too on a nice day, as is Little Italy (I've been told, really ought to get up there). Tower of London is great, or if you can get out that far, Kew Gardens or Hampton Court are really lovely. I always love a nice long walk on Hampstead Heath, which is beautiful and has great views over the City. Last edited by TiggsTours; 30th-June-2006 at 09:48 AM. | |

My personal preference if the weather is good (and it's my regular "people are visiting me" thing) is lunch in Covent Garden, wander up to Holborn, pick up Central line to Bank, take DLR to Greenwich/Cutty Sark, if time, then have a wander around Greenwich Market, or if people are interested, up to the Observatory (and the meridian line!), then back along the river boat to Westminster. |

Rep Power: 2 Rep.: 21 | Re: Stuff to do in London on a sunday There's a really great pub called the Scarsdale just behind the Kensington High Street - v atmospheric and great drinks.... Good place to escape the crowds. You could then walk (or stagger... ) up to Notting Hill Gate, Portobello Mkt (see above), or alternatively up to Kensington Palace Gardens and the Royal Albert Hall. And thence to Knightsbridge/Harrods/Harvey Nicks etc (buses run up the Kensington High St to KPG, RAH, Kbridge etc). And then a stroll around Hyde Park. |
