Actually your mother and I knew all about your "little visits" to Dame Fotheringham. It came in handy when I was asking her for a character reference after the unfortunate matter with the missing garden gnomes. She said she worried when she first met you since you seemed to have very little stamina, but she was very impressed by your subsequent improvement. I'd never own up to this but

I was the guy who blew up my home town!!!

(ok over exageration..)

Many years ago (I was 11 or 12) I decided to make my own fireworks. By "Make" what I mean is buy lots of fireworks cut them open and pack into a coke can (complete with fins and a nose cone).

I also made my own crude black powder (giving a kid an entire set of encyclopedia brittania is not necessarily a good idea)

Fuse was a length of string dipped in paraffin.. Put tin in breeze block "launch pad" in middle of field overlooking town .. lit fuse and retired.

Didn't as much "launch" more "detonate"

showered bits of breeze block all over the field and left a nice little (but perfectly formed crater)

actually this was pretty silly and had I time machine I would go back and give myself a right hiding !!!

spent the next month panicking every time I heard a police car or saw a police man!

There was some talk about "did you hear that bang last night" the next day but I'm sure people didn't know what was really going on.
