I had this all prepared to post when Franck took the forum away.

1 I never dreamed that any mere physical experience could be so stimulating!
2 There are four ways of doing things on board my ship. The right way, the wrong way, the Navy way, and my way
3 I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship
4 My, my, my! Such a lot of guns around town and so few brains.
5 When you're slapped, you'll take it and like it!

What I want is the name of the movie and the name of the character speaking the line. 1 point each, and 5 points for the theme. On this round the theme is easy, which is why I'm asking for the character name. No web searches or use of movie quote reference materials until/unless I say so.

Round up the usual suspects .......

No 3 is "Casablanca", spoken by Police Captain Renault (Claude Rains)

Well, I suspect it's the only film in the list from my era, so I had better get in quickly!!!

All the lines were said by captains...

1) Barbarella. Said by captain who shagged Jane Fonda's character. Before my time so a little scant on details.

Wrong on two counts, John (character name and assumption on age of movies)! But 1 point for the film. And 1 point bonus for being able to quote (with correct character name) another line from the film.

Wrong, wrong, and - let's see: oh yes - wrong. You're correct that it's before your time, but no points for that - sorry!!

So, all the movies are from John's era. No wonder us young 'uns can't get any of them then

I just realised I should have pointed out that you had the wrong actor, as well as the wrong character, John.

I find it difficult to believe that there aren't several of the young 'uns who haven't seen Casablanca (and the other movies).

This quiz has really captured your imagination! I obviously made it too difficult. Never mind - I thought at least John S would have had a second go at his quote - or indeed anyone else, since he did get the correct movie, so surely someone can work out which character said it!

Use of search engines is now allowed. Please someone put this round out of it's misery!

Is the theme that they are all Humphrey Bogart movies?

I did a quick Google search, but don't have time to post specific answers...

Still no use of a search engine, just exercising the one remaining brain cell.

Well, No 3 was said at the end of the film. so it wasn't Captain Renault who said it then it must have been Rik (HB).

And working on Franck's clue about other Bogart movies then No 2 sounds like it should be The Caine Mutiny - I know the captain had a funny name, was it Queeg or something like that?

Still trying my luck, No 5 sounds familiar so I'll guess The Maltese Falcon, said by Sam Spade (HB).

How am I doing?

(Oh, and if one of them is from The African Queen by any chance, do I get a bonus point for having my photo taken a few months ago in the actual boat used for the filming - it's in Key Largo, Florida (name-dropping!!)

Well deduced. Rick Blaine, played, as you say, by Humphrey Bogart

Bang on. Lt Cdr Philip Queeg, also played by Humphrey Bogart

Correct again.

Might be!

I'll give you the bonus if you post the pic.

"heid" thats a film line ? aaah you mean the Scots word. Thatll be 'so i married an axe murderer' then As in "that boys heids like a planetoid, it has its own weather system"

and for the 2nd one "American Grafitti"

Hello Chicklet and welcome to the Forum...

First of all, as Dreadful Scathe says, there are no specific etiquette rules to follow, just post away

For all the games (lyric, film, litt. , etc...) the general approach is that you submit a number of quotes all centred round a theme. Each correct answer gets 1 point, and 5 points bonus for the theme.
Anyone can prepare one at any time, and the only onus on the quiz master is to be around to answer people's guesses and to summarize the points.

Having said all that, I am totally stumped by your 2 titles, except maybe 'heid' was mentioned in Trainspotting?

Franck.

1. "You're going to need a bigger boat."

2. "Hello lunch."

3. "Not an easy thing, to meet your maker."
