Question Style

I've been dancing Le Roc for five months now and I've built up a fair repertoire of moves, but although I love it, sometimes I feel like I'm just doing the dancing equivalent of painting by numbers. Does anyone have any tips on developing a bit more style in my dancing?

Go to a workshop being taught by someone who's style you like. Or if that isn't an option, just watch people on the dancefloor, and try to imitate what people whose dancing you enjoy watching are doing.

Those are as good a place to start as any

Cheers, Trampy.

Workshops seem to be very few and far between in my neck of the woods (South Wales), but I'll be paying closer attention to the best dancers at my class from now on.

Barry.

Were you at the dance at the Coal Exchange last Saturday??

You've got Mark there in Cardiff to watch. And Bristol isn't that far away either...

Re: Style

Would have liked to have been there, but couldn't afford it (I'm getting married next month, so I need all the money I can get!). I heard it was a good night, though.

Mark is definitely worth watching. He and Jackie are awesome!

Drop Leroc and go to a more stylish organisation. One beginning with "C," perhaps?!?

Uhuh..... I think not! Particularly as there are no Ceroc classes in South Wales, where I live. I'm happy enough with my Le Roc class, anyway. Mark and Jackie at Planet Le Roc usually teach interesting, challenging moves, so no complaints there.

That's fightin' talk, darnit! Unless you were refering to Clifton Leroc?

I'm not very good either. It is my opinion that there are two aspects that need to be worked on i) have a repetoire of different ways of dancing to choose from and ii) to be able to want to express the music with your body.

You may get some help on the former from www.jiveoholic.org.uk/makeover.asp. As for the latter.....I'm not sure if it can be learned much, although for me it comes like magic from about half a dozen good tracks. I really do envy the arty jivers who don't feel self-conscious about how they dance!

Re: Style

I never said I wasn't very good, just that I've reached a bit of a plateau. I don't think I'm doing too badly for someone who's only been dancing (ANY kind of dancing) for 5 months. Before that I had a real hang-up about dancing. Le Roc has helped me to overcome that, and now I absolutely love it

I have no illusions about being the next great thing or some sort of hot-shot, but I'm doing OK for the level I'm at, I think.

Sorry - wrong use of words - my friends say that I look ok, but I have a desire to be better.
