Sounds familiar!

Except we do have lindy in Belfast, there were classes less than 10 mins from me. I did go along for a while but my knees got progressively more painful and I eventually gave up after a lindy social night that was really smoky.

When the smoking ban comes in here at the end of the month, I might start going along to the swing dance nights again - even just for the social side.

Re: Love to Lindy

I used to see Lindy as the bouncy weird dance too, until I discovered slow lindy, danced smoothly. I'm now a big fan and definitely want to learn some of their techniques, which is why I Carla Heiney and Ben Morris will be teaching at Blaze (The Scottish week-ender in May) so I can learn as much as possible from them! So for anyone interested in learning some Lindy, or to see what the fuss is about, there is still time to book your week-end in Scotland

Here's a video of their winning performance at the US Swing Open 2006:

Nah. Already tried that with AT, and it didn't work. I don't want to organise dance classes, I just want to go to them!

You have this smooth Lindy footworky style Franck, I love dancing with you and your very footworky i could quite put my finger on it before, but watching these clips now I know what it is.

I like the fact that the girls are wearing dresses with flat shoes, I realy struggle to wear heals to dance in it doesn't work well with my dance stlye, they seem to be wearing a type of 'broge' (prob spelt wrong) I used to wear them with my two tone trousers and my ben Sherman shirts when I was a skin head

I have been trying to find a clip of them dancing lindy - they are so amazing - and Virginie is such a sexy dancer and she teaches the girls smooth and sexy styling and how to follow well, whilst Steve concentrates on teaching the guys to lead well and with style

Looking forward to Blaze - Ben's lindy is great too, saw him dancing lindy with Trisha Sewell at Southport (Joseph & Trisha)

Does anyone teach some "Hollywood Lindy" moves with MJ grounding/basics - could be a gap in the market?

Norma Miller (famous swing dancer in Hellzapoppin) when asked what count she danced, 6 or 8, answered "I only know one count, Count Basie"!

The Harvest Moon dance competion from the 1930 onward called it '35 to '42 - lindy hop, from '42 to '55 - jitterbug jive and after that - rock and roll. In Europe and the UK the word jitterbug was dropped in the '50s and it became the jive. Basically its dancing...

Robert & Claire Austin have been teaching this style for about 3 years now and do a great job too, they use videos of Dean Collins to show students how it was done in the 40's - and Paul & Natasha teach it too

Dawn Hampton always says that too

I have the honour of 'looking after/chaperone etc' Norma Millar at Camp Savoy in August this year - really looking forward to getting to know the lady

I did the same for Dawn last year, what an amazing lady she is she told me stories about her and Dinah Washington and other legends

What Lindy moves could be sensibly imported into MJ that aren't already there?

Whooops, sorry jiveknight didn't read your post properly - however Martin has given a sensible reply.

BTW Hollywood style is very slotted and many current MJ teachers are actually teaching a smooth slotted MJ which is luuuuuuuuuuuuvly, might also have something to do with the current popularity of WCS too, which I believe was born from the former style.

I remember going to one of Dawns classes at the JATW event some years ago she mentioned she had never been to a dance class.
She spoke about moving to the music and how often less is more in dance.
I wonder if the modern day experts would like to comment.
Wish I had a DVD clip they could tell me if she was a up beat or down beat dancer.
Now what is that old doctrin, much understood By politcians and Dictators

Je grosser und dreister die luge desto eher wird sie geglaubt.

Good question. I'm far from being an MJ expert but is the Lindy Turn incorporated in mj for example?
When Catriona was trying to teach me wcs at the casbah once (by "trying" i don't mean the problem lay with her teaching of course) it seemed to have more in common with Hollywood Lindy (maybe coz they both west coast and/or as Minnie says one begat the other).
I am more accustomed/experienced with east coast.
