It was pretty amazing to watch all 'Matrix style' slo-mo fighting

And the previous year the pair of them did impersonations of each other at the Punters Cabaret, with Johnny appearing with 'Amir' written accross his chest and Amir with 'have you the balls to be' on his back and 'Johnny' It was so funny - I laughed till my sides hurt.

Yes, it's been posted before - still a beautiful routine though.

Factoid: Apparently the man has gone through nine aerials partners because of injuries. How fitting that his name is Oleg Ouchakov.

[Rereading that, it looks a bit snide, which it certainly isn't meant to be. Oleg was part of a Cirque documentary I've seen, and he actually seems a really nice guy and very protective of his partner. But the flyers are tiny and hyperflexible, so they are always going to be at more risk of injury than he is, given the kind of moves they do].

I struggle to live with the mentality that would put partners through that sort of level of risk. The self-belief and self deception that could persist through nine partners is outside my conception.

Im guessing a good percentage of the injuries would be through pulled muscles rather than drops. I would also hazard a guess that some of it has been because the woman would want to get out the circus lifestyle. After all, he is the famous one. Would I also be right in thinking that there is a lower 'age of retirement' for women from these kind of aerials?

I suspect very few of the injuries are from actual falls - the one thing about being at that level is that you have access to proper safety equipment for practising.

So yes, most of the injuries are going to be pulls and tears. But I suspect the problem for the women is that for a lot of the moves, it's not really their "muscle" that's taking the strain - it's going directly on the tendons. And if you damage a tendon, that's much more likely to end up as a career ending injury than if pulling a muscle.

The other thing, as you say, is the lifestyle. Doing a performance every day has to be incredibly wearing, and incredibly problematic if you have even a mild injury.

Would I also be right in thinking that there is a lower 'age of retirement' for women from these kind of aerials?

Again, yes I think so. You don't see many female gymnasts in their 20s. Conversely, Oleg is in his 40s. In the documentary I mentioned, he was very much "the old man of the show", with everyone else seemingly in their early 20s.

On the other hand, Vivienne Ramsey was world exhibition dance champion in her 40's, after having 3 children. And at a guess, Sharon Savoy was in her 50's when she won the US Open cabaret division

Exhibition dance routines aren't really in the same league as the Cirque routine, however. (Although Cirque couple did actually win Blackpool in 2003, 2004 - from what I've seen of them, I don't think they were anywhere near as good as Oleg and Tatianna).

Sounds a little bit like "Tropitango" by El Alacran, but re-mixed and speeded up slightly. Sorry, that's no help at all is it?
