That's amazing. For some reason it didn't quite play super smooth on my computer, with jerks and little freezes so it sometimes looked as if they're dancing out of time, which I'm sure they're not. Just as an aside, what do people think of the seemingly obligatory bit in showcase swing routines where the guy stands still spinning the lady countless times? Sure, it takes skill, but I always find myself thinking that the 'dancing' stops and it's a bit like "Oh here we go again, another million spins from superstar follower X". Dan

As to the dancing being amazing, that has to be true from a purely physical point of view. And yet, for me, it all seemed a bit souless, a choreographed routine endlessly practiced and performed flawlessly, but to me there was something missing. A true connection. Quote:

As for the commentators... I couldn't agree with you more. I'm wondering if they're ex-sports commentators - or maybe it's just a cultural thing of the commentators (something about having to mention the obvious!) It's kind of like being in the cinema and the people sitting behind you talking all through the movie... Shame there isn't a mute button just for the commentators....

I like it! I prefer the second half, I think. By the way, does anyone know if they use a longer slot in America than they do here? I was dancing WCS (rather badly ) with a very good girl last night who went much further out than I was used to, when I asked her where she learned the dance she said "California". Another thing I noticed was that she didn't seem to have the attitude that WCS has to be danced to slow music which nearly everyone over here has. It was the same with the only other American WCSer I've come across, someone called Heidi who taught in London once.Dan

Anyhow there are more of the routines from the Open now online. Here's Jordan and Tatiana's routine... YouTube - US Open Swing Championships Jordan Frisbee&Tatiana Mollmann |

| Senior Member | Re: You Tube Dance videos brilliant!!!! - I was hoping this would come online soon. I've watched it countless times on the DVD already, I think this is their best routine to date (mistake excepted) - it almost made me cry (and I can't say that happens often).

Just out of curiousity - (and please excuse my ignorance...) is Lisa ballroom or latin dancing trained by any chance? the reason I ask is that she's really working the top part of her body (and especially her arms) when she dancing WCS. Most great WCS women work their feet and legs and make the top part of their body smooth and effortless - the tension in the arms isn't obvious to the eye... whereas when I watched that routine (not including the lifts of course) it was so noticable for me that her top half was showing the tension... Just an observation

(or you 'fake' a longer slot by following the follow before their reach the end of their slot,or just decide to travel down the slot during the pattern). So what I'm guessing from there, is that you are probably not used to dancing with follows who will actually go to the end of the slot (in my experience that's a very common flaw from people with MJ background), that's why when dancing with someone who does it feels longer. (Also if you're not used to it, it is possible you might have given in to the resistance and followed your follower towards her end of the slot - forcing her to move even further until she can anchors). Does that make sense ? Anybody else with a different view ? PS: will ask mods to move this to the learning WCS thread. Quote:

This is just a quick plea to DJs and organisers at any of these events. Could you please turn off the disco lights during these performances. If you are going to film the cabaret then the camcorder takes the bright lights as the maximum and sets the exposure based on them and not the performers. At best the cabaret looks so dark that it could have been filmed in a cave, at worst I have seen some event dvds where you can only see the silhouette of the performers. It is not always helped if the performers wear black. Even when you are at the event in person you are often trying to see the performance with these bright lights flashing straight in your eyes. Please turn off the flashing lights or at least turn them upwards.
