Question Favourite Dance Websites

Just wondered which websites everyone enjoys visiting?

I'd like to recommend:
http://www.salsamafia.com
and
http://www.salsa-uk.com/salsa_surgery.htm

Strangely, it seems that Salsa dancers have similar issues to Jivers, despite the footwork

The other question is: If there's Salsa Mafia, is there a Jiving version?

Cheers,
Neil.

Dance sites I currently look at:

http://www.glitterlisa.com (Lindy Hop site with lots of videos)

http://www.hopscotch-swing.co.uk (ESDS)

http://www.jiveoholic.org.uk (Great moves site)

and don't forget:

http://www.cerocscotland.com

There's supposed to be a half-decent forum on this site

That Dirty Dancing site is great! Kinda cheesy!

Also:-

&
http://www.dancers.org/

are 2 on my favourites list.

Pleased you liked it I've since realised that the Flash coding gives some readers problems. If so, please skip the Flash intro and go straight to www.docker.demon.co.uk/dance/home.html which will give you full access to the site. Only the Intro and the 'Homage to the Ladies' needs Flash enabled.

I've not posted before so hope the links appear ok.

Question Dancing advice with a US slant

Just found "The Dear Edie" column at

http://www.dancefreak.com/edie/edie.htm

looks like a ton of dance-related articles that could generate a lot of discussion/threads.

Neil.

What a fun discussion site too! Definitely one I'll be adding a link to when I get a salsa page up on my own website. And lots of the peripheral issues found in salsa are also found in jive/ceroc, not to mention ballroom and other genres.

Sorry, but IMHO there is too much self-opinion and god bothering involved. But then again, it is American. {Spooky There is just an artical on the news just now about how 'god fearing' the americans are and their views on an openly gay bishop}

Could just about put up with the self opinion and god bothering, in low doses, as it can be mildly amusing.

More seriously, the site is not exactly dial-up modem friendly.

I agree with Chris and spindr it is worth taking a look at (with broadband ).

Nice webpage for terminology and such, including recent favourites "open position" and "rond":

Re: Favourite Dance Websites

Over-analytical dancers like me will love:
Musicality experiments in lead and follow dance
Modelling musically meaningful choreography

The experimental subjects were Lindy folks, but the concepts are the same.

I got as far as the intriguing reference to lead/follow experiments where people danced with robots, but the paper "Jiving with a Machine" (Science, Mar 2004) isn't available on the web unless you're a subscriber to Science AFAICT.

Re: Favourite Dance Websites

Looks like this paper has experiments in dancing with a machine leader, amongst others:
Got Rhythm? Haptic-only lead and follow dancing
Oh, one more paper: Haptic dancing: human performance at haptic decoding

Not read these two - just passing on
