Well, it looks like a March Ceroc Ceilidh (Saturday 9th March) in the Partick Burgh Halls.
I used to have a few Ceilidh bands contacts, but if someone knows a (small-ish) band they would like to recommend, either post here or email / phone me directly.

Cheers,

Franck.

Franck, great news about the ceilidh night - I remember the first Edinburgh Christmas party I went to was in this format and it was excellent - even better to see Viktor (from London) struggling to cope with the Gay Gordons.

But if it is likely to be as successful as you envisage, should it be all-ticket? I have never been to Partick Burgh Hall so I don't know the capacity, but sometimes the monthly parties are less enjoyable if they are too crowded, and with a ceilidh as well, the risks to life and limb increase exponentially!

I'm first in the queue, with my elbows out stopping anyone else from pushing in! :p

Hi fc,
If you browse back to the main pages of the cerocscotland.com website, and click on the parties link, you will then see a link for a map to Partick Burgh Halls (ok, I'll make it easier still: Click here )

Cheers, and I look forward to both our kilts clashing when we dance next

Tickets on sale?

Hi Franck,

Re the ceilidh, will you be keeping a few tickets to sell at the Aberdeen party? It would be a shame if all the tickets were sold at the PINK night in Glasgow. (Sorry crimson was the closest I could get!) I know a few of us Dundonians are keen to come through (mainly to see all these knees ha !ha!ha!)

I tried quoting from a previous message but ran into a wee problem - am I correct in thinking if the person you are replying to has quotes in their message, then you can only quote from the text that is below that quote ( does that make any sense? )

No problem of course! I can also sell you tickets directly if you email me how many you need and send a cheque.
Anyone else interested, drop me an email: franck@cerocscotland.com

You are right, the quote system will only quote the actual message, ie not the already quoted text in the previous message. You can pretty much do whatever you want by juggling with the tags (ie words inside square brackets like ] or [... If you type QUOTE inside square brackets at the beginning of the text you have copied / pasted, it will insert the quote lines. If you also add the letter B for bold inside another set of square brackets, the text will be bold. You need to close the tags, to finish the quote / bold text, simply by adding a forward slash: / before the B or the QUOTE inside square brackets at the end of the text you are quoting.
Sorry this sounds really complicated. The best thing to do is to experiment while writing the message, and make sure you use the preview... Once you are familiar with the tags (ie B for bold, i for italic, U for underline, etc...) it is much quicker to type the tags directly as you write.

I have created a Test forum page so you can all try out different features, send any rubbish, reply to yourself, test polls, etc... so go ahead when you get the chance.

Cheers,

Franck.

The next Valentine night on Sat. 9th Feb, in the Partick Burgh Halls.
The theme is Pink and Love-hearts...
I was especially keen to get the guys to be imaginative with pink.

For direction, apart from the map on the website, you can drop me an email and I will try and help you out.

Cheers,

Franck.

I twice got lost in Glasgow (going to dances, been lost loads of other times!) and despite having a map, couldn't figure out where I was thanks to the Council failing to put up street signs a lot of the time! We ended up driving for miles down roads with no-name until we got to a road sign then realising we'd gone the wrong way!

The second time, I gave up and went to Cafe India for a curry.

BTW I worked in Glasgow for about 4 years but only know the area between the station and Charing Cross (where I worked), Partick Burough Halls I can just about manage but anywhere else, forget it!

Ok fc, we need to do something about that.

First of all, gather a few friends to share the car with you, that way they can be navigators (alternatively, sit in the back of their car and shut your eyes until you get there... )
Next, here are directions to Partick Burgh Halls from the M8 (make sure you print them out for your navigators):
Quote:

From the M8 westbound (ie coming from Edinburgh / Dundee / Aberdeen), take the Charing Cross exit (the exit (I think it is exit 17) is on the right-hand lane of the M8).
Follow the ramp until you merge with the road following the M8 from above. You should now be at a set of traffic lights (nĦ1) (Sauchiehall St is on your left). Go through the lights, and then through the next set (nĦ2).
At the 3rd set, you will turn right into St Vincent Street . Follow St Vincent St all the way (it becomes Argyle St after a while). Keep going for quite a while, past the Kelvingrove Art Galleries (big building on your right) and the Infirmary.
Argyle St then becomes Dumbarton Road. At this stage, look ahead for a bright orange rail bridge (with Partick written on it). You want to turn right 2 streets before the overhead bridge, into Fortrose Street.
Take the first left into Burgh Hall Street and you are there. Partick Burgh Halls is right in the middle on the left-hand side, you should see the Ceroc banner outside.

If these directions seem a bit complex it's because, I have tried to make them as accurate as possible. There are quicker ways to get to the Partick Burgh Halls, but this is the simplest way as you pretty much stay on the same road all the way.
Anyway, I hope this helps and look forward to seeing you in Glasgow in the next 5 /10 years...

Cheers,

Franck

After getting lost twice on my way to Glasgow Dances, I visited my mate in Manchester only to discover the directions I had from the last time I visited him didn't work..... I phoned him (quite a lot of times) and he looked at his map and was puzzled as to what street we were on. It took us 3.5 hours to drive there and 2.5 to find his house. It turned out they had renumbered the junctions about a year ago and we still had the old numbers as did his map... so what we thought was Junction 9 was actually Junction 6...

After this I bought a hand-held Global Positioning System (GPS) with real map data (like street names) shown and have managed to get where I want 100% of the time after that! It's even been on holiday with me as I've got no sense of direction! Sad but true!

I'll make a note of your directions Franck, I know roughly where PB Halls are but normally turn down the wrong street and have to ask for directions - the GPS will get you to an address - you just have to know what the address is!

Cheers

Ahem!....um....the M9 incident.....well....

OK so i drove up the M9 the wrong way...i'm sure hundreds of people have done it!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :p

Oh and and i'm sure at least 1 in 10 people get ambushed by a traffic cone at 5:45am at the Perth roadworks!! :p

OK so who wants to come in my car to Glasgow??...any offers?.... nope?....oh well then :p

OK here's the problem.....
I have my Ceilidh ticket (cheers franck ), my kilt is pressed and hanging up as i speak, and i have directions.....BUT!.....
To be honest i'm hopeless with directions and never drove to Glasgow before. Is there anybody going my way that wouldn't mind me following them there and back?

Would be much appreciated

Thanks

Hi fc

If between now and the big day you don't get any better offers (and I find that hard to believe) then I'm happy to be your escort/guide/chauffeur (assuming Franck sends me my ticket by then .....)

And if you haven't already worked out who I am then I'll tell you next time you are trying to teach me the full body roll, or whatever it was called.

John
