Rep Power: 0 Rep.: 10 | Have you ever been to a club / venue where extra effort has gone into providing sometime over and above that which you expected? It may be that there is a tin of chocolates on the front desk for general consumption, deodorants strategically placed in the toilets, or iced water freely available in jugs on the bar. What are some of the best things that a club can do the make the evening stand out from the rest ? |

Rep Power: 3 Rep.: 12 | At the last Camber weekend, I was impressed that jugs of water were freely available on the bars. Not so much because I wanted to drink the stuff myself, but it really made it a lot quicker and easier to get served with proper drinks! However, I suppose most venues would be reluctant to do that, because of the effects on the bar takings Neil |

Rep Power: 3 Rep.: 688 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Things that make you go wow! In a particular order Enthusiasm (especially from the teachers, "Hey let's learn the first move"). Non-smoking venue (take it outside). Air conditioning. Cheap bar, with attentive staff. Eclairs at 1am like at Rock Bottoms. Tea/coffee afterwards. People making an effort, e.g. if it's fancy dress everyone goes in fancy dress --- it makes much more of a community spirit -- e.g. Ginger Jive's 1940s dance at Greenham 99% of people were in uniform / period costume. Rep Power: 6 Rep.: 1756 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm gonna vouch for Franck here.... Every Party night since the dawn of time, Franck has had sweets @ the front desk, as well as on individual tables for dancers. He also ensures party venue has LOTS of jugs of iced water, and likes to go with themes to add to atmosphere. Was one of the first to introduce Non-smoking policy at all his venues. He's not adverse to handing out free ice-cream during a night, too. And as for the chocolate party..........!!!!!!!!!!! AND, somehow, his enthusiasm continues unabated. ![]() Just need to get him onto this coffee @ the end of a night thing... ![]()

Thanks, no wonder my enthusiasm is still there, with such praise ![]() I'd love to take all the credit, but in truth, it's a team thing and we are very lucky in Scotland to have the best teachers, the best managers, djs and of course the best Cerocers and the best Forum Everyone working hard to make it that little bit more 'special' ![]() I am currently working on the special treats for the August Big Party, Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th... Definitely another un-missable event, a live Ceilidh band, Cabarets from David and LilyB, and the Tramp and Sheena, many mini style workshops, taught by the incomparable Adam, returning by popular demand, and David and Lily... What a week-end it will be! Not to mention a hall that is bigger than anything I have seen, never mind booked for a Ceroc dance... ![]() Thanks again, Franck.

And yes, I think the main bit of effort that is vital, is the teacher looking like they're having a good time. If the teacher looks like they can't be bothered. And are not dancing, then I really think it has a negative effect on the night. One night in London, where I was taxi-ing (a few years ago now). In the 6 nights I worked there, I didn't see the teacher dance once. In the end, I asked to move to another night, since there was just no atmosphere, and it was all very flat. Nice to say that is the exception, rather than the rule though. Steve

Rep Power: 3 Rep.: 14 | With reference to thee Franck, DITTO to all of the above. It is so encourageing to see a teacher mix with us mere mortals and does it with a welcoming smile. Franck has certainly made my night on several occasions, but the icecream at the Beach Ball room was the icing on the cake. TT x ![]() |

I knew Franck couldn't have made those very tasty sandwiches all by himself. At 3am on a very crisp evening/morning it was just what we needed before our drive back to Edinburgh. Rep Power: 4 Rep.: 10 | At the Charlton venue in London on the special nights we usually have a whole range of sandwiches, sausage rolls, pork pies, crisps etc etc, basically a huge layout of food, plus balloons and snacks on the tables.. Every night there are jugs of water at the bar. Even when it's regular members birthday's a cake is bought out lit with candles and your dragged onto the stage to have everyone sing to you, and if your very lucky it doesn't get any more embarrising than that. As you can imagine this venue always has a friendly atmosphere.

Well, he's truly surpassed himself this time - at the Aberdeen party last night, as well as the usual sweeties at the front desk, the jaffa cake bars on the tables and the fun "Just Back from Holiday In Greece" class............Franck also arranged for a bevvy of beautiful girls all dressed in their school uniforms to visit for a while and entertain us all (Photos to follow guys )

Rep Power: 3 Rep.: 822 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think it's nice to make the effort to put the little finishing touches to an event. At every Route 66 we put nibbles & sweets on every table. There is always a big bowl of assorted mints at the front desk, & tablecloths and candles on all the tables. It makes the whole night more cosy and sociable. At our Beach party, there were jelly fish candy ice cream cornets, and chocolate seashells on the tables, and a buffet, all for the princely sum of £5. Normal nights admission is only £4. People always notice if you make the effort to make them feel welcome(IMHO) |
