Marketplace: Find a competition partner here?

So .. the Championship season approaches.

Its probably too late for Blackpool, but Ceroc Roxy, LeRoc, WSM, Britrock are all coming up. Not a lot of use if you haven't got a partner but....

How about using this thread for posting availability for completion partners.

Something like:

"Female (30-ish) Advanced dancer, Beds WLTM similar Male for BritRock and maybe more. Must be keen on lifts"

Good idea / Bad idea?

OK ... as I vaguely fit into that category ... and some poor sucker has to start the ball rolling ...

N West aged male, slightly overweight ex-instructor, likes moving rather than moves (because he's forgotten them all), WLTM fit, experienced female dancer, preferably with jazz/WCS/line dance experience with a view to entering the Open at one of the Minors later in the year.

OK ... sits back and waits for the offers to come flooding in

It's never too late, is it?

OK here goes:
Female (age is surely no object), Scotland, WLTDW (would like to dance with) pretty much anybody in any category in which she wouldn't be laughed at"

Is that it?

I think weight might be more useful than age .......

only if you are doing aerials or maybe the open ???

I would have thought height would more relevant - mind you after seeing a very short lead with a taller that normal follower at the Ceroc champs

Ugghh???? Think we raise this topic on an annual basis, suggesting it would be an excellent service the Forum could provide ... no joy so far.

Lol, that has potential! Instead of three minutes to chat, you can take three minutes to dance... chemistry is an instant connection... it could just work - and I bet more people would admit to speed dancing than speed dating!

What's wrong with threads like these? I'm not sure what other functionality would be better?

Re: Marketplace: Find a competition partner here?

Hey, this is a brilliant idea! Can I post on behalf of others? Oh well, here goes anyway ....

1. Male (under 50) Advanced/Open standard, living in NW England, ex-competition winner (no other clues, sorry!), very keen and willing to travel - looking for a female partner (under 5'6") in NW/Midlands to compete with at Advanced level.

2. Male (under 50) Open standard, London-based, another ex-comp winner, very experienced competitor - looking for a female partner in London area (under 5'10") for Open level competitions.

3. Male (under 50) Intermediate std, living in Berkshire, no previous competition experience, keen on aerials - looking for a female partner in Berkshire or surrounding areas for Intermediate and Aerials comps.

4. Male (under 50 but over 45) SW London-based Advanced std, very experienced dancer - looking for a female partner (under 5'8") in London area for Advanced level and Senior(Ceroc) comps.

5. Female (under 50) Advanced/Open std, living in Berkshire, experienced competitor, keen on aerials - looking for a male partner (over 5'6") in Berkshire & surrounding areas for Advanced/Open, Aerials and/or Showcase comps.

Anyone interested please PM me.

Well done Lily! I think using a third party is a brilliant idea!

My fear with this thread was, it might cause embarrassment and I think this might aleviate some of that problem..

I mean, how does one let someone down gently?

I'd hate to reply to someone directly, incase they said no or worse (maybe), they said yes, purely out of politeness

I know I'd certainly find it awkward to turn someone down directly but maybe I'm just weird like that?

I find it difficult enough to ask someone of they want to fix with me for a workshop at a weekender!

Re: Marketplace: Find a competition partner here?

Haha .. think I've got the 'tallest' order!

6'2" (yes height is very relevant) girl of OK standard (though not sure as only seen myself dance once) would love to do aerials (but no previous experience for obvious reasons) with an aversion to wearing tights (true - is actually a phobia!!) and terrible balance.

WLTDW someone taller than myself (pigs flying yonder) who likes doing aerials (must have very strong muscles as I weigh a ton!) and has to be good enough to make me look OK in an Open standard competition (cos stupidly am now a teacher).

If only I were serious eh!
