Men's competition clothing, advice needed

Hi guys

I'm trying to put together a competition outfit (along the lines of something Latin-y) and was wondering whether anyone on the forum could recommend a particular supplier? I'm been looking at the Chrisanne and Dancesport stuff but it seems to be horrendously expensive for what, at the end of the day, is essentially a Lycra shirt and fitted pants. I know men don't seem to have as much variety available to them as women when it comes to competition outfits, but the choice (from what I've seen) seems to be really limited.

I've always bought trousers from Ron Gunn. They are not cheap, but they last a long time. I usually wear Nike or Adidas tops, but that is mainly because we do so many aerials.

One thing I would suggest is to wear something with colour. The judges tend to write the numbers and quick descriptions of each couple when they walk onto the floor, so they don't have to worry about seeing the number later. I only know who couple 120 is when the man has his back to me, but I can see 'Red Shirt/Silver Dress' anywhere on the floor. (Some of the computerised judging systems also include this description on the printed sheets).

Unfortunately 80% of men wear either black or white, and 80% of women wear black. One heat last year had 5 couples with 'black shirt/black dress', so we had to look for the numbers. The longer we spend looking for your number, the less we spend looking at your dancing. This is particularly important in the Intermediate and DWAS, where there are lots of people on the floor.

Whatever you wear - make sure you pin or sew your shirt to the inside of your pants. It's not a good look to have your shirt coming out while your dancing in a competition.
