Mike Ellard paid a visit to our venue. I did not recognise him, but did recognise a dancer I could learn from. I actually sat out a couple of dances to watch and learn. Eye contact and relating to partner are weaknesses of mine, I learned on that front.

He also set a good example by giving dances to a variety of partners, not just the top dancers and youngest and most attractive. If his style is "the shape of things to come" then Ceroc will do just fine.

When I discovered who he was I actually collared him briefly (I would, wouldn't I?). He did mention that he was disappointed that this forum did not attract more responses from the average Cerocers.

And an "average Cerocer" would look like?

Who is to say that this forum doesn't already have a full population of average cerocers .... with a few 'independant' bandits like myslef and LL to come out with the occaisional non-party line comment

But why would they know about it?

There'd have to be a reason for us southerners to head off to the Ceroc Scotland web site.

Before I'd heard of the forum I'd go to ceroc.com occasionally for the venues I was interested in, but that was all. I didn't even hear of the forum via a Ceroc contact

I've told quite a few people about it, mostly Cerocers, but apart from a couple of them who lurk from time to time, only one has joined and started contributing.

Chris

Had the same problem Gus, far too hard, what is an "average Cerocer"?

Maybe it is the people who attend a "Ceroc" class, stand in the centre rows (not too far to the left or right wings) not too near the front, or back of the row

I will try and write more slowly for you.

The average Cerocer does not earn any income directly from dance related activities, and never intends to.

Well that would make me an average Ceroer then and A couple of others I know on the forum and we contribute to the discussions regularly. I'm sure Mike cant realise exactly how many average Cerocers do contribute.

I know what Mike means. Most of are rather obsessed about dancing if we're honest, so much so that we're prepared to spend dozens of hours a week talking about it on the internet, in between dancing 2/3+ times a week.

The average Cerocer probably goes 3/4 times a month and would have no idea of who any of the names belong to on Gus' A-List

Now Mike could rectify this by automatically issuing a free "Admit one" for every new account linked to a unique Ceroc membership number.

Watching Saturday Night Fever is quite a good antidote - they actually take themselves seriously the whole film while looking pretty twattish.

Me when I have a McDonalds I insist on the napkin being folded the correct way, examine the burger to ensure the flame grilling has been sufficient to seal the flavour, check the onions are transparent but not overcooked . . . then I give it stars out of five for presentation, variety and choice of ingredients, responsiveness of the waitress, overall originality of the dish and timing on getting it to my table.

Then hopefully I get real (wiping the ketchup off my chin) and say something inane like 'you can't beat a McDonalds for good fast food eh? At least you know what you're getting . . . blah blah munch munch'

I'm remembering J.Cronin's alleged quote about MJ being the McDonalds of dancing. At least no-one could say he took himself too seriously then. But throw in the odd Michelin chef and ten years later we all take it s-e-r-i-o-u-s-l-y

Like Will I can understand the point about Mike wanting the boards to attract the average beginner or intermediate,

What I don't accept however is that this forum is a bad thing it is quite the opposite. Via this forum I have met many new dance chums who now know who I am (not sure if that's a good thing or not ) For example: Chris A, Debster Andy McG, Sgt Billco and Bex Rachel,Pammy, Lory, Mary, Lily and DavidB, Divissima and The Tramp and others (I already knew Lounge Lizard) and I am looking forward to meeting more of you in Southport.

The powers that be must accept that this forum is now the UK ceroc chat room, and must realise that policy and all modern jive things etc. are likely to be discussed here.

Incidentally I have never earn't a penny from modern jive so I must be an average although I do dance several times a week.

He did not say, I did not say, that the forum is a bad thing.

Although venue managers, teachers, DJ's , Taxi dancers and competitors are all excellent sources of information what any chief exec worth his salt wants to know is what the non-comer and newcomer thinks about MJ, from their own mouth.

Obviously we will never get that here to any significant degree, but we could hope to be closer.

Well, I'm an 'average Cerocer' too, I get along to 1 class per week, and a dance/party at the weekend, if there happens to be one on. Of course, I could spend my life travelling between Dundee, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow and go almost EVERY night of the week, but then I have a LIFE and a daughter of 10 who deserves at least some of my attention!!!!
I love my dancing and get great pleasure from it, I also appreciate it for the way it has allowed me to meet and make new friends. I don't think it matters that much how often you go along to Ceroc, it's Quality not Quantity that matters and we have lots of that up here in Scotland.

This isn't for the chief exec. Its for us.

Everyone knows what newcomers think of ceroc. Everyone here has introduced at least 10 people to ceroc and then asked them what they thought of it.

What is useful about the forum is you can get the opinions from people that know a lot about the business, the dancing, and have travelled to many different venues and classes and have seen enough different places and ways of doing things that their opinions are useful to us when deciding how to run things ourselves, where to go, or how to dance.
