Strictly Come Dancing - Series 2

Hi all

I hope this is ok with Franck and the Mods (sounds like a sixties band! )?

With the new series of SCD starting on Saturday (23rd Oct), I thought It would be nice to have a new thread for the series, for fans on here to share their views and thoughts. As an avid fan of the show, I will be watching every program, including those shown during the week, and will endeavour to keep you updated with the latest news and gossip as it unfolds over the next 8 weeks.

The series kicks off with 10 couples this time, compared to eight in series 1. Of the professionals, we say goodbye to Kylie, Hannah, & John, but welcome Lilia Kopylova, Ian Waite, Darren Bennet, Hazel Newberry, and Nicole Cutler (the latter being no stranger to many MJers ).

Bruce Forsyth once again hosts the show, with last year's winning celebrity Natasha Kaplinsky , returning to share co-hosting duties with the lovely Tess Daly.

The full line up then, is as follows:

Paul Killick + Carol Vorderman
Nicole Cutler + Diarmuid Gavin
Anton Du Beke + Esther Rantzen
Erin Boag + Julian Clary
Brendan Cole + Sarah Manners
Lilia Kopylova + Aled Jones
Ian Waite + Denise Lewis
Camilla Dallerup + Roger Black
Darren Bennet + Jill Halfpenny
Hazel Newberry + Quentin Wilson

The sister show, last year titled "Strictly Come Dancing on 3" and shown only on BBC3 digital, has been re-badged as "Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two", and will now go out on BBC2 each weekday evening . The show is hosted this time by Claudia Winkleman, who replaces Justin Lee Collins.

The starting schedule for the show then, is as folllows:

(October)
Sat 23rd BBC1 18:15 - 19:30 SCD
Sat 23rd BBC1 20:10 - 20:20 SCD (results)
Mon 25th BBC2 18:30 - 19:00 SCD: ITT
Tue 26th BBC2 18:30 - 19:00 SCD: ITT
Wed 27th BBC2 18:30 - 19:00 SCD: ITT
Thu 28th BBC2 18:30 - 19:00 SCD: ITT

You can get more details about the show here...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/strictlycomedancing

In the meantime, bring on the couples and let's see some dancing!!!!

Do you mean that West Country dunce......somewhere there is a village missing it's idiot......

Let's hope they come to the Ceroc Champs in May 2005 - it would be really good for PR and we'll get lots of national airtime to promote Modern Jive across the nation so that people can see what a great thing it is....

If fact, if he could host part of the show , being the intelligent ambassador he is , he could do MJ the world of good by making it attractive to the uninitiated masses.....

They would see him and MJ dancing like a real hotshot and if he could make an effort and ...Oh, I dunno - wear a white suit Joe Public would think WOW...!!! that's just what I want to do.....and dash off to find their nearest MJ venue....

Then again........

(saracastic rant over......)

Aww, that's a shame Lynn . I went out and bought a digi-box specifically for the show last time, and I'm so glad I did!.

For me, SCD on 3 was the reason I got hooked on the show - it gave a better chance to get to know the personalities of the competitors, an insight into the training regimes they were "enduring", and demonstrated once more the sheer amount of comradeship (sp?) that exists within the dance scene (as we know of course) .

At least he's a dancer. I'm also more in favour of Natasha Kaplinsky as a presenter, on the grounds that she's done SCD and knows what it's like. Tess Daly never really came across as having had any experience - not to mention the twirl she did at the start of each show (and before anyone shoots me down, I know she was pregnant at the time, but it doesn't stop people like Lorna, or Penny still managing to move in time and with grace).

That dunce was the idiot I was refering to! And the main reason I didn't watch more than one or two programs.

Well I had never seen the 3 show so I didn't know what I was missing. Looking forward to some teatime viewing next week (and a good motivation to get out of the office earlier to be home in time!)

Brucie is a god amongst men and dancers......

Did anyone see the 'Have I Got News For You' when he hosted - it was a classic piece of TV....

Re: Strictly Come Dancing - Series 2

I'm really looking forward to it!

I'm sure it'll be even better this time, as last time you got the impression they hadn't really sorted out the camera angles etc and they kept cutting to the scenery or the singers rather than the dancing!

I can understand why they've brought Brucie back, but I hope he follows the autocue better than he did last time, he looked a bit lost for half of it, which was a shame really.

I quite agree about Natasha being the ideal replacement for Tess Daly while she's off having a baby. I hope she'll be doing lots of dancing too, as I thought she was excellent last time.

So what's the betting on who's likely to be out, or who's going to make it to the end? I saw a bit of Ester Rantzen and Carol Vorderman, and didn't think much of them, but Roger Black looks hopeful! You never know though...!

Can't wait till the first show tomorrow!!!!

..bumped into someone in Somerfields who said they raised a petition requesting the beeb do more dancing on telly & for some reason she said to make it entertaining like the Generation Game with Bruce Forsyth in the 70's!!

As some posters here dont like him I'l withold her name - but its true - I remeber her doing the petition a couple of years ago..

gosh, who u meet in supermarkets.. ;-)

I'm really pleased the show has returned.

Despite a few niggles, the first series proved a real hit and has done great things to promote partner dancing to a wide audience.

I do hope they improve their camera work this time around & resist the urge to change shot every 2 seconds - that was very off-putting.

Jive Magic (Cardiff) have Anton & Erin performing cabaret at their Xmas dance this year... If you want tickets, get in quick!!!

I saw the Irish gardening bloke on BBC Breakfast (Diarmuid Gavin?) and he seemed to be having a few problems with some of the moves. Both he and Esther Ranzen tipped Denise Lewis to win.
