OK, OK. OK.
I've moved it back, heaven knows I wouldn't want to gain Eternal Geek Emnity or anything...
Nice one!
Lag isn't usually too bad, but sometimes it can be dreadful. Warriors can usually cope with that, as can hunters, but most other classes who actually have to do things to be able to fight ( ) don't deal so well with it. I make it a general rule that once I've died once because of lag, I give up.There are some really nice, useful Add-ons - I'll look them up and post links to them tonight. For example, there are add-ons that give map coordinates, allow you to tailor your bar interface more, store info on the maps about where you gather herbs/ore, and tell you how much an item last sold for at the AH and sells for to vendors. What sort of plug-ins are available for this software package? I've looked at the plugin writers API and can't really make much head nor tail out of it yet but then I don't know the ins and outs of the package yet. And of course, there's no point in programming a plug in if one already exists.. reinventing the wheel etc. There are some ports recommended to open if you have problems, but if you managed to install and download all patches in one evening then you don't have problemsI did get a message when downloading the patch that I was behind a firewall but it didn't seem to worry the installation too much. are there any particular ports I need to open up to allow the package to run ok? As I said I managed to run it last night, so obviously no problems as such yet.As I've mentioned up there somewhere, ESG and I use Skype, which works fine for multiway calls too. And you don't have to buy a server. Also I was looking at my old teamspeak account (used for Eve) for live voice chat over TCP while playing. Would this be easy to use while in WoW? or are their better/easier/more integrated systems available? Can't help you there I'm afraid, dunno what that's all about.Don't you dare split the thread - don't you think the playing is as geeky as the tech questions?now I KNOW the username and password. is there some delay in replicating the user details from the server to the website?
The spec needed is very low, any delay you get is generally down to the server. That server was very laggy for about an hour one time i connected but its been very fast otherwise.
Its all on the Wow europe site FAQ.I did get a message when downloading the patch that I was behind a firewall but it didn't seem to worry the installation too much. are there any particular ports I need to open up to allow the package to run ok?
Dont see why not - either Teamspeak or Skype will do, whatever most people already have. Not sure its really necessary though - unless youAlso I was looking at my old teamspeak account (used for Eve) for live voice chat over TCP while playing. Would this be easy to use while in WoW?
are really incapable of typing
I think there is - i had the same problem.now I KNOW the username and password. is there some delay in replicating the user details from the server to the website?
Well - you're doing better than me. I still can't get past the 'Handshaking' stage when trying to fire up WoW. It's clearly talking to the server, as it manages to get past the authentication stage. Port forwarding is correctly set up on my router, so I know that's not the issue. A bit of googling reveals other people with the same issue, but no answers (there's a suggestion it's linked to the latest patch)
Tried to use Blizzard's tech support form, but ... it was a bit broken.
Any of you more technical folk got any ideas?
After a quick e-mail to the guy who upgraded my puter for me I found out the spec is as follows:
Power supply unit: Akasa PaxPower 400 watt
Processor: Socket AM2 AMD Athlon 64 3800+ (2.4 GHz)
Memory: 1 GB of reasonably cheap PC6400 DDR2 SDRAM
Motherboard chipset: Nvidia nForce 4 Ultra
HDD: 7200 RPM, 160 GB, SATA 2.0 interface
Graphics card: LeadTek WinFast 7800GT, PCI express
It runs WoW really nicely - once it actually lets me play
I haven't had any problems with lag (thought I don't know that I would realise if I had had those sorts of problems).
Please let us know what your Orc is called Beo, so we can add you to friends too
..of course,
Last night just before bed I clobbered a whole pile of boars, so I guess I just need to talk to everyone with a big yellow ! over their heads and do their quests to get up levels?
I'm in ..erm.. valley of the trials or something like that! it's so easy to get lost here. will look into one of those map coordinate plug ins later.
I'd be pimping Google Talk at this stage since it is based of an open standard but they still haven't implemented n-way voice comms (or even MUC) so I'll shut up.
As for voice comms. No, they make everything way better. I play Civ IV with voice comms just because chatting to your friends at the same time makes it feel more LAN like. It makes all the difference.
if you want one mate, i can recommend titan panel, i've been using it for a couple of years now. The link is here.
World of Warcraft UI / Mods - The Unofficial World of Warcraft Mods site
there are a whole bunch of other addons that work with titan panel, do a search for titan on the website and you can see what's available

it seemed a good idea at the time ok?
now I'm off to read up on some Quest guides.. I have some amulet to get from some cave.. and I'll be darned if I know where !!
Probably better take me off the list. I tried it for a while, and, to play it safe, I've deleted all traces of it from my hard drive. Fun while it lasted... but I don't think I'd want it as an addiction.
