Lux - the Utopia luxury weekend

The thread about upcoming 2009 weekenders seems to have been lost in the BFD so I will start this separately.

I was interested to see the flyers around the Winning Post on Fri night advertising Lux, the luxury Utopia weekender. It's 26-28 June 2009 which is the week after JA's Eclipse and a week before Ceroc's own Chill is scheduled so the weekender market looks to get even more crowded though this looks like an attempt at a slightly different experience. The venue is not being made public yet but I believe there will not be any real geographic clash with the events it is sandwiched between. Full details inc. location and teaching schedule will I hope, be up when the website opens 1st Dec. Fair play to the Utopia team - they could rest on their laurels with the successful nights at Twickenham but they do keep trying new things - S'Funk, Twisted, Dusk til Dawn, etc

Will that be enough of a plug for a free ticket or do I need to come to the stage wearing a poppy in the next 5 minutes?

Can someone please tell Rob he needs to wear some clothes with his poppy! A horrible mental image is starting to form already.

I would have been very tempted to book this weekend but it clashes with Glastonbury which is probably one of the few things I wouldn't miss for dancing! Give me a muddy field, some Brothers Pear Cider and the Jazz World field anyday (If Utopia run another weekend though that would be good too haha)

There are too many weekenders to choose from I have to space mine out over the course of the year and this is one that I would of absolutely adored to have gone to but have already booked for Eclipse the week before ...still can't have it all I suppose .

Oooh, I can't wait for more details on this one.

I wonder where the location will be. Any guesses?

Admittedly the picture I saw on the leaflet at the Winning Post was in the gloom, but it looked like the Copped Beech Hotel, Bracknell.

Yup - looking at the pictures on the website, it's definitely the Coppid Beach. I've spent far too long there visiting the nearby HP site to mistake it for anywhere else. Excellent choice - it's about time there was a weekender at a decent location.

This all assumes that the hotel featured on the website & flyers is the one that they will be using...........

.....but then that's a reasonable assumption to make I guess

I was asked if I was going to the Utopia weekender in Bracknell, when I was at Bliss. But as I haven't a clue where Bracknell is (Is it London?) It didn't really mean much to me.

The question is... where is Rugby!

Bracknell, is sort of near Reading and Slough

I think I heard that it is Bracknell (near the M25/M3) but the price was a little too high for me.

Around £250pp which with food, hotel and great music is an excellent price but probably not for me.

There are some details on the utopia website under Utopia events but it doesn't say where yet.

Maybe we'll just have to accept that not everyone can go to all of them (though am sure that Fletch will give it a d@mn good try!).

I wonder how many weekenders people actually like to do in a year. I think I'm happy with 3, particularly as that'll use up at least 6 days holiday wtih one day each side, and there are other places I want to go too, not just Pontins!

Maybe this needs a new thread, but how many weekenders do other people actually want/expect to do in any one year?

I saw a big sign at Camber advertising that you could spend your Christmas there!

Can you imagine Pontins, mid winter, with NO DANCERS and NO DANCING? :I need a fainting smiley:

Re: Lux - the Utopia luxury weekend

In light of this thread I thought it was important to just give a quick bit of info before the main details go live early Dec:

Yes, it is at the Coppid Beech Hotel in Berks - more info here: http://www.coppidbeech.com/

Yes, it is aimed at a different niche to all the other weekenders so we don't see it as a 'competitive' weekender in that sense. In addition the date is set where it is for no other reason than to fit in with the hotel's other commitments. It is also 'reassuringly expensive', so by definition will not be a massive weekend with residential capacity at a max of around 350-400 - and all the accommodation is in the hotel itself.

All food is included, including a Saturday night gala dinner and the event is a partnership between the UTOPIA team and Bill & Becky Cooper of Ceroc TV.

Once the webpages go live it will show all of the teachers and Dj's and all of the teaching and DJing scedules as well as all the menu details in advance, so that people are fully informed before they make a booking.

Booking will be available by deposit initially and will be gender balanced with a balance payment due next April.

The event will allow check in for all accommodation from Fri at 2pm and the event will close at approx. 11pm Sun night.

Hope that answers some of your questions for the moment, but as I've mentioned, a very comprehensive set of webpages including all teaching and Djing schedules, food menus, accommodation details, location and ancillary leisure facilities along with an exhaustive FAQ will be launched early Dec.

    And we're SO excited!

I spent a terrible week in Camber once with a group (and kids) in caravans - the Haven Holiday camp, just down the road from Pontins.

The memory of that awful holiday (in high Summer) with the rank smell of chip fat blowing across the windy beach, has always put me off going to Bliss.

NB - All the kids loved it!
