I'll repeat (as near as I can remember) what I posted in reply to that.

Airing your dirty laundry in public is, to me, grossly unprofessional. It's been done by both sides in this case (and by some people less directly involved). If you've got a genuine grievance that can be prosecuted in the courts, then that should be done. If you've not, then the parties need to sort it out amongst themselves - which may involve walking away if nothing else works. If you do make it public, then neither party has much chance of walking away with their dignity intact. And the result is most likely to be a mess.

I think the most important thing from a business view, is to make sure you don't make your (potential) customers feel uncomfortable.

My guess is that the Jive Addiction mailing list was held by John.

Wes rang me last Friday and told me the news in person. But I still didn't get an email from him.

I have it now from a different source

As people have said he probably doesnt have the full e-mail base.

However Facebook, Twitter or what ever, a new base can be built up fairly quickly I guess.

For me however its always whats on offer.

I dont think the rant adds anything, lets hope Wes had a few things up his sleeve and then people can decide.

Yes, it's horrible isn't it? I've just caught up on this thread and was thinking "what email, what email?"

I then looked at my emails and found that Wes had indeed sent the email to me too, so I'm in the circle of trust after all! Phew! I was feeling all rejected for a brief moment then.

If you want a copy, PM me your email address and I'll send the email on to you, then you can join in the discussion.

This is a tough one for me. I went to Gran Canaria with Jon and Wes in August this year (by "with them" I mean I went on their dance holiday, not that I was sharing a bed with either of them or anything saucy like that). There were only about 40 of us in total for the whole week so it was quite easy to chat to everyone on the holiday and actually spend quite a lot of the evening forging friendships, getting to know people and having lively discussions and debates.

I found both Jon and Wes very good company. They're both very different people but equally interesting, witty and enjoyable to chat to so it saddens me deeply to see such a successful partnership become so sour.

As with the whole Ceroc/Jive Addiction fiasco last year, I won't take sides. As I've said before I attend events that fit in with my social calender, I don't care who runs them. I think most people do the same...so with that in mind I totally agree with Lory in that it's bad form to make your customers feel uncomfortable by airing the guts of a disagreement to anyone on the mailing list and I really hope (although I suspect it wont) Jon and Wes will just dust themselves down and start afresh with they're own thing and leave the mud slinging alone.

Some of us poor people not in the loop were talking about booking this as Swish is all booked out and now its all gone a bit confusing. Is it on/ off, duels at dawn, man bags at midnight?

Re: Jive Addiction - The Next Chapter

I suppose that the Ceroc v JA spat over Southport came at the right time really.
Assuming that JA would still be running Southport had it not been for the 'takeover',the results of this little(?) spat would in some way have tarnished the image of Southport.Instead at least most people still think of it as John and Wes crowning glory.

Unfortunately the rest of the business does seem to cast a cloud of uncertain
feelings towards one or other of the partnership.
Lets hope that they can come to an amicable agreement.

But for me you can make it as public as you like
I would still go to whatever weekender I liked and could afford so the outcome is immaterial to me.

So would pretty much everyone else, especially if friends are going.

It makes no difference to the Manchester weekend at all. I view the split the same way I would if two friends, that were married, went their separate ways. There will usually be an injured party and some hurt, one or both wanting to tell everyone what a swine the ex is, it is unfair for either to expect their friends to take sides (or in this case the dancers too). Good friends will be supportive to both parties but not get too involved in the whys and wherefores of the split.
I wish good luck to both John and Wes with whatever they do in their 'single' lives.

Society works to a significant degree because a sense of injustice can override an individual's own interests.

Luckily not everyone is 'professional', in your terms.

If you've got a genuine grievance that can be prosecuted in the courts, then that should be done.
From what I understand of our court system, in most cases, that probably is the least wise course.
