    Southport Essential Items:

With only 31 days until the Southport weekender and this being my first dance weekender, I wanted to find out what essential items (apart from the obvious cleaning products!!) I will need to bring with me to survive and make it an even more fabulous weekend.

    Any ideas?

    Re: Southport Essential Items:

There was something about this on another thread about another weekender (Camber I think), which I did find helpful.

I actually type up and save 'packing lists' for holidays, dance weekenders etc, saves me thinking about it all over again each time.

As well as the obvious - clothes, hairdryer, dance shoes etc I also usually bring -

    Tea towels
Mug (cos I don't like the small 'cups' of tea)
    Tea, Coffee, Sugar
    Snacks & crisps
    Bin bags

Support bandage for knee, Plasters, Party feet, Antiseptic cream - don't usually need these, but just in case!
    Painkillers
    Footspray
Foam earplugs (essential for when you are trying to sleep when everyone else is getting up! )
    Hand wipes
    Plastic water bottles
    Shoe bag
Flip flops (for wearing between chalet and venue before changing into dance shoes)

Of course I am limited as I fly over, I'm sure anyone travelling by road or train could bring more things!

    Re: Southport Essential Items:

After last Southport I learned that:

*I needed about twice as many pairs of trousers than I brought with me (I only had 3 pairs of trousers and 3 skirts - not enough!!!)

*Roughly 100 pairs of socks should do......

    *First aid kit and painkillers!

*Several towels, as I showered about three times every day!

*Lots and lots of bottled water - I was constantly dehydrated, and there were sometimes very long queues at the bar to get water, or at the water coolers (and it was wet around the water coolers, so you got soggy shoes )

*Lots of wet wipes and deo wipes

*Washing up liquid (and teatowels as Lynn mentioned)

*All the t-shirts and dance shoes you have!

Oh, and I found pro-plus tablets quite handy to get me through the days and nights of non-stop dancing!

    Hope this helps!

Yes, that's handy, I didn't include it as I didn't want it to leak when flying over and there were 4 chalets of us from NI - we just bought one between us at Tesco's en route from the airport.

My thoughts too 8 or 9 pairs trousers might just do (3 skirts probably too many for me only need my one pink tutu)

only 3 times a day Little Monkey!!!

*Lots and lots of bottled water - I was constantly dehydrated, and there were sometimes very long queues at the bar to get water, or at the water coolers (and it was wet around the water coolers, so you got soggy shoes )
yes definetley loads of water (and wine for afterwards )

*All the t-shirts and dance shoes you have!
I will be taking my statutory 40 to 50 shirts and t shirts( such a sweaty b*****d that I am!!!)

Oh, and I found pro-plus tablets quite handy to get me through the days and nights of non-stop dancing!

    Re: Southport Essential Items:

As well as much of the above, I'm intending to cover all the major food groups with fruit of the type that doesn't need refrigeration (bananas, apples, oranges, etc), nuts'n'raisins, rice cakes and crisps.

    Sorted

    EDIT: how could I forget

Ambrosia creamed rice - straight out of the can

Thank you very much everyone for your advice. I have certainly picked up some tips to prepare me for lots of dancing and socialising.

I hope to meet you all in Southport!!

I found this essential - the shop doesn't stock fresh fruit and by the end of my first Southport weekender I was so desperate for something fresh that I had to go and beg raw carrots from Aleks (we sat and ate them in the blues room).
...Believe me, trying to explain away two hot and sweaty women sitting together giggling and eating raw carrots is no easy task - save yourself the hassle and bring a bag of apples with you!

    S. x

PS. although they supply bedding it can be quite cold and their pillows are naff, so I always take my own pillow and a blanket.

You've just reminded me.... I don't know about anyone else but I get absolutely freezing about half an hour after finishing dancing, even if I've had a very hot shower and mugs of hot chocolate.

I think it might be to do with tiredness and muscle fatigue but sometimes it can get quite serious, where I just CAN'T get warm, no matter how many clothes and blankets I have on. Sometimes I've even resorted to taking the hairdryer in the bed with me... I joke NOT

So, this time, I'm going to take a leaf out of ZW's book and treat myself to a programmable electric blanket!

The advantages of driving rather than flying...but I do pack my hot water bottle! And I can't bring my own pillow but I do bring my own pillowcase.
