    Brand New (and very sore!)

    Hello!

I'm brand new to the forum and to Ceroc. My first time was last Tuesday. I've never danced before (which is pretty obvious!) so I've spent the last week recovering from the shock!

I can't wait until tomorrow night for my second chance to elbow everyone and take the longest strides in the room!

Hope to get to know you all better and find out exactly how not to look like a deer caught in headlights.

    Hi Elle!

I started dancing in Glasgow about a year and a half ago, like you i had never danced before. Its a great place to learn and the taxi dancers are fab.

Go and enjoy yourself and make sure you give everyone an elbow from me

Thanks drathzel! I'm hoping my elbows won't make an appearance tomorrow night, but if they do I'll just say you told me to!

Re: Brand New (and very sore!)

Hi elle, welcome to the forum, and to Ceroc!

I was there last Tuesday, though I missed most of the beginners' class. (It was unbelievably crowded!)

As a beginner, I've only got two words of advice... 1) Relax! and 2) Smile!

If you can do that much, the rest will follow...

I'll maybe see you tomorrow as I usually also go to the GUU as well as Jumpin' Jak's.

As a beginner posting to the forum, you are also entitled to chocolate!!!

Thanks ducasi! Yes, it was very crowded last week. Good fun, though!

Chocolate? Brilliant! Mine's an aero, thanks!

Hey elle! I wonder if we have danced yet, I lead beginners. I love meeting new people! If ducasi finds you before me he can introduce me.
Do I get chocolate too? I'm still a beginner

    Hiya Elle,

Enjoy your second night - don't worry about your strides - if you have a good lead, they will keep you right. Ask someone to recommend a good lead if you haven't sussed one out yourself yet.

As for the elbows - I'm coming up for dancing for about 2 years and I still have a left arm that likes to attack people on the dance floor I'm afraid! I think the locals are used to me now and make sure I get enough space

    Hi, Elle.

    And welcome.

If I've read you correctly, you are coming to GUU tonight?

If so, come and say Hi. (DJ, kilt) If you have not already met some, I can point out the forumites and introduce you: they'd be delighted to welcome you themselves

Hmmm...don't remember anyone with elbow issues in the refresher class...

Hope you're enjoying it so far Elle, and say hi next time we dance (apologies if you've already introduced yourself!)

And have a good dig around in the Forum - plenty of good advice on here. Plus laughs. And arguments. And blue people.

    Hi Elle,

I'm planning to be at the GUU tonight, so I'll maybe see you there. Think I'll be wearing my black Gap t-shirt, but CJ can point me out... (I'll be the one he'll be trying to wind up by playing dodgy tracks with false endings.)

    Really?

A girl managed to give me a crackin bash on my chin last night with her left elbow. Probably my fault though... (too dazed to actually remember... )

Re: Brand New (and very sore!)

I'm goign to the GUU tonight, yes! I'm bringing (dragging) my friend along with me. I can't wait!

You lot are ridiculously friendly! Thanks for all the welcomes.

Jazz_Shoes (Ash) - I don't think we've danced! I might get a dance with you tonight. I'll bring you chocolate!

Piglet - Thanks for the advice! Glad the elbow thing isn't just me! I might design myself a t-shirt that says "warning, rapid elbow movement".

Ceroc Jock - I might say hi! I'm a shy one, though. Just look out for the girl who looks the most out-of-place!

Stuart M - Are you the taxi dancer who "isn't Janet"? I think I asked you about what to do with my feet. I was the awkward one of the group

ducasi - I'll look out for you! I can't promise I won't attack you with my elbows or my legs, though!

Can I ask a question actually? What sort of footwear should I be using? I had a quick search of the forums, but nothing really came up.

I wore some trainer-like shoes last week, but I felt that they were sticking a bit to the floor. What shoes do you all wear, and any recommendations?

Anything with smooth soles usually works. Trainers don't, because most people find it hard to spin in them....

And shame that you didn't come last week. I was there then. But only come down from Dundee occasionally.....

Yes - I am now officially the 'taxi dancer who is not Janet'. Well, officially that is except Franck, who occasionally thinks I am Janet...

Basically, avoid soft rubber soles/heels. So most trainers are out. Hard rubber is fine, or simple leather soled shoes. High heels are porbably not a good idea for now.

I was hoping you'd say I could wear high heels, too!

I had these picked out and everything!

Ah. Came down to work. That's usually what brings me down there. Though, I quite often come down for the monthly parties too though....
