Is Andy Murray Scottish / British or English ?

A recent football thread seems to have generated some anti ‘English’ feeling so for balance----------

Andy Murry is a rising Tennis star (now England are out of the world cup) our eyes are upon him

My view is as long as he stays in Wimbledon he is British

If he gets knocked out he is Scottish

If he wins Wimbledon im assuming he is English (must have a ancestor some where ?)

No - if he wins it is down to the Yorkshire blood in his veins.

Given that Wimbledon is the "All-England Open Tennis Championships" he can't count as a home win anyway, so what are all those Union Jack wavers on about? I mean, even Greg Rusedski's more English than Andy.

Sounds like Einstein: " If relativity is proved right the Germans will call me a German, the Swiss call me a Swiss citizen, and the French will call me a great scientist. If relativity is proved wrong the French will call me a Swiss, the Swiss will call me a German, and the Germans will call me a Jew."

Paradoxically you might be right but there is a big Event on the Horizon looming

For mercenary (yet altruistic) reasons, I was backing Andy Roddick, who gives shedloads of $$$ to the charity I work for (and seems to be a fairly good sportsman too - his loss last year was reasonably graceful).

Since Andy Murray beat Roddick, he's not my favourite person whatever his nationality :sulk:

Andy Murray, while playing in Wimbledon is representing Andy Murray. It doesn't matter if he is Scottish, British, European, or an alien.

If he is representing Britain in whatever that tennis competition is called, then he is British.

I think if you ask him, he'll say he's Scottish.

The people you like may be a good idea, just dont let anyone else tell you who you 'should' support. That way lies cheesecake .............and after dinner mints.

Although I wonder what Tim Henman thinks now the media have officially re-named Henman Hill as Murray Mount...

Sorting our socks by hexidecimal colour code and spending many a night by running their hands up and down their long hard.. .. slide rules

English geeks ,scottish geeks. no matter.. we all speak the same language.. .. .. Klingon!
