    Have you ever.....

Have you ever...complained to the Venue Manager?

On this forum there are lots of posts advising us to report dangerous dancing which could/has cause/d injuries to the Venue Manager.

I wondered how many people actually do so, and what happens if they do?

If you have, were you satisfied with the way your complaint was dealt with?

For any Venue Managers on the forum - do you get mant complaints?

I now annoy the taxi dancers if I see it - they take it more personally it seems

    Re: Have you ever.....

Yes, just once. One night the volume was so high that it was distorting (and you couldn't even hear yourself talk off the dance floor), and the DJ (not the regular one, believe he was in training) was speeding up every single track...

I actually didn't know who the "venue manager" was, so just went and had a word with the chap on the door whom I've known as a taxi dancer since I started there. He asked me to go and have a word with the DJ, who had apparently been asking for feedback - and apparently there had been other complaints too. I wasn't particularly happy going and doing it myself (I felt it would have been better coming from the management) but I did anyway, and he responded really well and turned the volume down a bit (though not enough - my ears were ringing when I left the venue).

This wasn't the first week we'd had this problem, so I actually contacted the regular DJ through facebook suggesting that some more training might be in order, and got a really positive response, welcoming any sort of feedback, which I thought was great.

Your thread reminded me of the following...

I gave it to her dead straight "That taxi dancer over there f*cking stinks to high heaven and you should say something to him as he is putting all the beginners off. It's also clear that you so greedy for cash that you are prepared to put people in danger rather than refuse entry, I've been trodden on three times and nearly broken my ankle".

I swear that's what she said, you can't make this stuff up.I felt like dragging her over to him and forcing her to sniff his pits.God knows what the rest of him must have smelt like...her nose couldn't have been functioning properly.

Well since you go back every year, I'm not surprised that they don't take your compliant seriously!!

I think the only time I complained was to a DJ when the volume was so high that the speakers kept cutting out. Volume was not excessive, just not enough power for the room - particularly on the more interesting tracks with a wider dynamic range. The response was an explanation of why, so I rapidly got bored of that venue.

Out of interest.... and maybe this should be another poll - how many people go out of their way to praise the venue managers when there's something (or everything) outstandingly good about the evening?

I've told the teacher sometimes when I've really liked a routine or something. When I've had the chance to.

    Me too.

I sometimes compliment the DJ on his/her playlist if I've really enjoyed it.

I'm not always sure who the Venue Manager is though. Maybe they should wear a tag?

    Re: Have you ever.....

I offer feedback sometimes to venue managers, but only if I know them well and I would like to either praise something they are doing well, of point out something they may like to take a closer look at.

When people come up to visit, and they tell me how much they like the local friendly venue, how much they respected the level of teaching, how much they liked the music etc. I encorage them to tell the venue manager or teacher.. If they do not tell them, I pass the feedback onwards at an appropiate time.

When a lot of effort goes into making a venue good, I think it is encoraging for the organisers to get regular feedback on this.

    I once complained at Ashtons.

I went about it the wrong way and have learnt a lesson from it.

If complaining is needed in the future I shall not be doing it.

If there is a problem, then it is best to take a photgraph of it, because, as we know, 'The Camera Never Lies'.
