Reputation Total: 102 ![]() ![]() | Hi Guys For those of you who like to keep there diaries up to date the next Scottish Comp 2003 will be the Saturday the 18th Oct 2003 with a pre-competition party on Friday the 17th Oct 2003. I will look through the Feedback from the last Comp and we may alter or introduce a new Category. If there is anything new you would like to suggest let me know. Secondly I have choice for the Friday Night Party either MarcoÕs or Brunton Hall, there are some ÒsubtleÓ price differences. Just now I have booked both. Anybody got any view or preference on where we should have it. Scot |

If people are traveling to us they will probebly be booking accomodation near musselbourgh - goodness - better book up quick!!!!!! Mind you on the other hand perhaps people would like a change of scence.???.... sorry Scott that may not have been any help at all. anyway it will fun!!!and we can all have a lie in on the sunday. Fran ps I recommend the massage to everyone if they are there ![]() |

Re. the party the night before I'd personally have a preference for Marco's for a couple of reasons, a) you probably won't get as many people on the Friday with the compretion the next day and b) going to Musslebrough twice in two days would give the hall a kind of "I live here feel". I guess on the other hand though you have to consider those travelling may prefer one venue and also it was quite good for us to have a look at the venue in advance for caberet performances (although this arguement loses strength in that 250-300 of us have now seen the hall). Regardless of what you opt for though I'm looking forward to it already |

I don't mind where the pre-competition party is. For the format, I think it is important to retain some differentiator from the other UK events - How about a "Men in Kilts" section, or at least a prize for Best Costume? ![]()

Given how few Edinburgh dancers turned up I don't know why it has to be there ( sorry to anyone who did turn up from Edinburgh). The hall was fine but there were - and will be some problems with the windows and the light. There were some large halls/ hotel ballrooms mentioned in Glasgow which might have been even bigger than Mussleburgh and with the added bonus of on site accommodation. Too late now but maybe more of the Edinburgh crowd would turn up to Marco's. ps I did hear a couple of folk saying they thought the price of the evening ticket was pretty high and as it was only a freestyle night ( all the comps were finished) there would be little difference from a normal dance night which only cost £6. |

Personally, I think it's better to have the party in the same place as the competition as it makes it much easier for those who have to travel. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the reason the tickets were expensive if you only wanted to come at night is due to the restrictions on the number of people you can have in the hall. There will be a set number that can be allowed in - so if people only buy tickets for the party in the evening it limits the numbers that can come during the day and therefore people are encouraged to buy tickets for the whole event. Does this make sense? - what I mean is - if the hall holds 400 and 200 people buy tickets to come at night it means only 200 can get tickets for all day. Right or wrong Scot????????? |

Reputation Total: 50 ![]() | Whether you decide Marco's or Brunton Hall, I'll definitely will be there. I wouldn't miss out on the party for anything. However, I'd personally prefer to have the precomp party at Brunton Hall because it'll be easier in terms of travel to stay in one place over those two days. Plus I'd quite like to stay at the haunted house in Inveresk again! Lisa x |

Reputation Total: 11 ![]() | Brunton Hall was great last year and it would seem a shame to make people who are staying in that area travel to Marcos for the Friday night and its good to be somewhere different for a change. Wonder if you would consider moving the Scottish Comp. around to different venues each year so everyone gets a chance to be the 'hosts' you could even get the 'host town' to decorate the hall for the party... or put on a caberet. What does everyone think? ![]() |

Think it makes sense to have party and competition in same place.Do we have to compete or is it like Musselburgh where you could free dance but not compete??? Far too nervous for that Sandy ![]()

totaly agree ... only done 3 competitions myself and know the feeling ... still get v nervous but its a 'good' nervous if you know what I mean. If anyone is thinking about competing for the first time, chat to FC ... she REALLY was not looking forward to it ... but once she was in it she had a fantastic time. .... try it, whats the worst that could happen??

Reputation Total: 223 ![]() ![]() ![]() | Find myself agreeing with both Gus and DS about the nerves, but it can be a positive nervous adrenalin rush kind of thing, unfortunately I got hyper on the adrenalin rush first time I ever competed, danced at pretty much double speed (much to partner's surprise!) and rather less surprisingly bombed at the first hurdle. However as with many things the more often you do it the easier it becomes. |

It's only when I start dancing that I really forget that I'm in a competition, and start enjoying it. When I did the advanced and lucky dip in the ceroc competition in 2001, if you'd given me a bucket before the finals, I'd have used it!!! Steve |

Have to agree though. I still don't enjoy competing much ( so why do it ). I find it difficult to hide my nerves and smile. Always think I dance better when I'm not competing. It might get easier after time but I still shake as I get on the floor and then of course the mind goes blank so it's back to the first move and then ............... But if you haven't competed .....go for it . As Gus says what do you have to lose ???
